Light Blogging, August 25, 2005
I haven't been posting nearly as much here in recent days as in the past. Here's my lame excuse: I've been seriously busy the last several days and it's going to be like that for awhile. Sorry. Also, this blog online magazine turns 4 years old on Nov. 30. I'm giving serious thought to taking the whole month of December off and letting a few guest-bloggers fill in....
Busy Bloggers, August 04, 2005
My son, who turns three a month from today, has a pat answer for when you ask him to do something and he doesn't want to do it. "Bennett, sing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star." "I can't." "Why not?" "I'm busy." You may have noticed I haven't been writing a lot here in the last several days. I'm busy. But the good news is, if you're looking for a daily fix of Tennessee political news and...
Growth, August 03, 2005
It's been awhile since I looked at my traffic stats. July's number of unique visitors was up 42 percent over July 2004. Overall, BillHobbs.com drew an average of 27,896 readers per month in the first seven months of this year, up 25 percent over last year's 22,306 unique visitors per month. Total visits are up as well - 481,709 through the first seven months of 2005, up 30 percent over the 369,964 total visits in...
Day Off, July 22, 2005
I've taken the day off. Which means I'm doing freelance work and spending time with my wife and kids. So I probably won't be blogging much today. Have a great weekend!...
Cool, July 05, 2005
My blog new online magazine BillHobbs.com got a mention on the "Inside the Blogs" segment on CNN's Inside Politics today. Thanks to Brittney at NashvilleIsTalking.com for mentioning it 'cuz I didn't see it. :-(...
Here At The Beginning, July 02, 2005
Hello! Welcome to BillHobbs.com, a new online magazine of news, politics and commentary that, as of midnight, replaced the old "blog" that resided at this address on the Interweb. We have made a few changes but have sought to keep the transition seamless and invisible to you, our readers. Please let us know how we're doing. The blog is dead. Welcome to the brave new world of online news magazines! - From the publisher...
And I Shall Blog No More Forever, July 01, 2005
The management of this blog announces that I am ceasing publication of this blog after today. In light of recent and continuing moves by the Federal Election Commission to regulate blogs that cover politics, while allowing media publications a media exemption from such regulations, I have decided that it is time to cease publication of this blog after more than three years of blogging. Starting tomorrow, I will publish a new online magazine here at...
Ad Sale Extraordinaire, June 15, 2005
The next three advertisers to place an ad in this blog's left-column ad strip can run their ad for three months for $66. The top slot is taken through mid-September by the ad currently there (for GeoBandy), however, the second ad (for ProGOPGear.com), expires at the end of the month. Buy today, and I'll hold it to start running until June 30 if you like. Now, back to our regular blogging......
Comments!, June 09, 2005
This blog's comments feature is once again working normally. Thanks to Adam Groves for the tip on what might have been preventing it from accepting comments. He was right. MT-Blacklist had previously despammed a comment that had only a partial URL in it - http: - which was resulting in every comment being blocked....
No Comments, June 08, 2005
It has come to my attention that the comments feature on my blog is giving everyone an error message, saying their content has been rejected for "objectionable content." It even happened to me when I tried to submit a comment that said, merely, "test." I'm not sure of the cause of the glitch but have contacted my hosting service's tech support and am working to solve the problem. In the mean time, if you have...
Site Stats Through May, June 02, 2005
This blog was read by 29,000 different people in the month of May and has been read by an average of 29,128 people per month this year, up 26 percent over the first five months of 2004. Total visits are up 33 percent for the same period compared to a year ago, averaging 68,913 visits per month, or 2,281 visits per day, up 33 percent over the same period a year ago. Thanks for reading!...

A Non-Blogging Day, May 27, 2005
Sorry for the lack of blogging today, the day after the arrest of four Tennessee state legislators on federal corruption charges. There's plenty of news coverage and probably lots of bloggage about it, but I haven't had the time to cover it here. So look on my blogroll for the Nashville and Tennessee blogs and click those - most if not all will have at least something on the Tennessee Waltz scandal. Matt White has...
Blog Ads, May 12, 2005
If you are interested in advertising at BillHobbs.com, please continue reading......
Busy, May 05, 2005
Blogging will be light to non-existent today as I'm swamped with BlogNashville stuff. And if you're a fan of my weekly barn-blogging, which I didn't get to yesterday... sorry. Check back next Wednesday!...
Swamped, May 02, 2005
Posting is likely to be fairly light this week as I am swamped with last-minute organizational details and loose-ends-tying for the BlogNashville conference. There's still time to register for that, by the way. Go to BlogNashville.org and click the "Register" link....
A Few Changes, April 30, 2005
I have made a few changes to the look of BillHobbs.com. Hope you like them - let me know what you think. The Nashville skyline panorama is a photo I found on the web - I think at PBase.com - a while ago. I'm only using it temporarily until I shoot a good shot of the Nashville skyline of my own....
Ad Space Sale, April 26, 2005
I have cut the price on a three-month ad in the second Blogads strip on the left sidebar (below the stats counters) to $45, until the end of April, for the first three ads placed. Grab a slot while you can. Click here. I also have cut the price slightly on a three-month placement on the Blogads slot on the right sidebar, but only through the end of April and only for the first two...
Up, Up And Away, April 21, 2005
Slightly more than halfway through the month of April, BillHobbs.com has already received more unique visitors this month than in the entire month of April 2004. Even if the site gets no more new visitors this month, the number of unique visitors to the site each month since January is up 20 percent over the first quarter of 2004. The number of total visits to the website is up 22 percent, and the number of...
Thanks, April 19, 2005
John Hawkins over at RightWingNews.com recent asked some A-List bloggers to name their ten favorite blogs. If one of the names that made one of the lists isn't a type, misprint, accident or cyberglitch of some sort, I'm honored and rather amazed. Thanks, Glenn. And while I'm on the subject of thanks, a very heartfelt "thank you" to each of you who has shopped at Amazon via my Amazon link, run an ad on the...
The Cold Card Facts, April 18, 2005
You may have noticed the credit card ad over in the right side column. If you're in the market for a new credit card, consider applying for it - it's also a fund-raiser for the California Republican Party. Affinity cards are a great way to show your support for a cause and generate some funds for that cause by doing what you do anyway - shop and buy stuff. Ah, but doesn't offering a credit...
Light Blogging in the Forecast, April 15, 2005
Here is the weather forecast for the Nashville area next seven days. A typically gorgeous Middle Tennessee Spring. Don't expect to find much new here on the blog this weekend, other than, possibly, some spring photoblogging....
Travel Day, April 07, 2005
Blogging will be light to non-existent today as I'm on job-related travel. But I've posted so much great stuff in the last few days that you can't possibly have read all of it yet... UPDATE: I'm on the campus of Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tenn., in West Tennessee, for the Spring meeting of the Tennessee Collegiate Public Relations Association. The school's rather nice new Brown-Kopel Business Center has freely available wi-fi access. The drive over...
The One-Day Sale, March 31, 2005
Today only: Place an ad in the second Blogads ad slot in the left-side column (below the mission statement, copyright info and counters) for just $20 per month. Price reverts to $30 per month at midnight. Four slots available....

This blog is now accepting classified advertising. Scroll down the left-side column to find the slot, click "Advertise here!" for pricing info and to place a classfied ad....
I Got My MBA, March 15, 2005
I am now a member of the Media Bloggers Association, as of today. The MBA is a sponsor of the BlogNashville conference May 5-7 ....
Arrgghhh!, March 15, 2005
Busy morning. Back to regular blogging a little later today. Also, if you have sent me an email in the last 3 weeks to my bill-at-billhobbs.com address, I didn't get it. I get email at several addresses and didn't realize I was getting none at that address - not even spam - until this morning. I found 1,725 emails stuck on the server. I'm not sure why my Outlook Express is no longer downloading them....
Ad Sale, March 14, 2005
You can now advertise in one of the three Blogads ad strips on HobbsOnline for three months for the price of two. Click the "advertise here" link below any of the three ad strips (one in the right sidebar, two in the left) for pricing. Space is limited. This sale ends March 15 or when two slots in each ad strip have been sold....
A Simple Request, March 14, 2005
Click the "...read more" button for a letter to my regular readers....
Simplification, March 11, 2005
You may or may not have noticed the slight change at the very top of my blog. The flag no longer says HobbsOnline/BillHobbs.com, just BillHobbs.com. I had a few people tell me that they went to "HobbsOnline-dot-com" but couldn't find my blog, so the blog's web address is now also its name. The name is dead! Long live the name! I also added a tiny image of the Nashville skyline to the flag. That image...
Okay, Break's Over. Back On Your Heads!, March 03, 2005
Took an all-day break from blogging yesterday (well, after one post in the morning). Took a day off from work, too. With one child in school and the other at mother's day out, my wife and I had a relaxing day. Ah but the break is over, and I'm back at work - where I'll be focusing over the next few weeks on arrangements for BlogNashville, the big multi-faceted blogging conference coming to Nashville May...
Ad Space Sale, February 27, 2005
HobbsOnline averaged 35,000 unique visitors per month over the past year, and traffic so far this year is up by about 30 percent over the same period a year ago. You can reach a large audience for a small amount of money. I'm currently offering ad space on the right-side column for a discounted price of $75 for three months - but you must purchase the space before the end of February. The only ad...
Tracking the Conversation, February 25, 2005
I have just added a new feature to the blog. At the bottom of each post you'll see a link titled "Linked By." Click it and you'll get a listing of every post in the blogosphere that's linked to that specific post, as tracked by Technorati....
Lance On Radio, February 20, 2005
Lance Frizzell of the Lance in Iraq blog, is currently on leave and will be a guest on the Teddy Bart's Roundtable radio show Monday morning from 7-9 AM. It airs on WAMB 1160AM, and also on TV around the state. Here's a list of times and affiliates. Also, you can listen live (7-9 a.m. central time) by clicking here. Lance says:We're going to be talking about what we're accomplishing in Iraq, this website and...
North of South Knox Bubba, February 04, 2005
I just looked at my blog's stats and discovered a few very interesting factoids. First, this blog had just over 30,000 different readers in January, down from a few months ago at the peak of the pre-election info-frenzy, but up sharply from the 18,000 of January 2004. Second, HobbsOnline has long trailed South Knox Bubba as the third-largest Tennessee-based political blog (behind Instapundit) but has now apparently passed SKB. By a large margin. Technorati lists...
Ad Space Sale Continues, January 28, 2005
The ad space sale continues here at HobbsOnline, where I have cut the cost to advertise to a mere $20 per month in all three Blogads slots - for a limited time. The right sidebar slot and the top left sidebar slot were both full yesterday, but two ads have expired and now each has one opening. Grab the prime real estate while you can. Also, the second ads slot left sidebar has two openings....
Sale!, January 25, 2005
The ad space sale continues here at HobbsOnline, where I have cut the cost to advertise to a mere $20 per month in all three Blogads slots - for a limited time. Currently, the right sidebar slot is full, the left sidebar slot has one opening, and the second slot on the left sidebar has two openings. Get in cheap while you can......
Ad Space Sale..., January 21, 2005
I should mention that I have dropped the price to advertise on HobbsOnline to a mere $20 per month in all three Blogads slots - for a limited time. Currently, the right sidebar slot is full. But the top left sidebar slot has two openings, and the second slot on the left sidebar also has two openings. Get in cheap while you can......

Traffic Report, January 11, 2005
Via Instapundit, I saw N.Z. Bear's analysis of the post-election traffic decline at a few of the largest political blogs. HobbsOnline also saw a big surge in readership in the run-up to the November election, and a decline since election day - but not a complete decline. It appears the election-drive surge in readership resulted in a sustained increase in readership for this blog of about 20 percent. From January through June of 2004, HobbsOnline...
Thanks, Hugh, January 10, 2005
Hugh Hewitt paid me an extremely nice compliment today. Thank you, Hugh. Dear readers, have you bought Hewitt's book, Blog, yet? Well, why not? Whaddya waiting for? An engraved invitation? That's what the book is - an engraved invitation to the future of message media. RSVP today....
Big Numbers for Lance's New Blog, January 04, 2005
Lance Frizzell's blog from northern Iraq, imaginatively titled Lance In Iraq, had a whopping 17,703 unique visitors in December. That's approximately the same number of readers my blog had in January 2004 - after two years of blogging. And, uh, Lance didn't start posting until mid-December. Not bad for a first-month blogger! Thanks also to Instapundit Glenn Reynolds, who linked to Lance's blog early on, and to Knoxville News-Sentinel reporter Michael Silence, who followed up...
14.5 Million Pages Served, January 01, 2005
The final stats are in and HobbsOnline served up 14.5 million pages to readers in 2004. On average, the site had 30,000 unique visitors every month. The blog's single most-viewed category archive was my archive of Voter Fraud news, the most comprehensive of its kind online, viewed 51,731 times. The second most-viewed archive was my rather lengthy collection of "Was Bush AWOL?" news and commentary, accessed 17,728 times. RatherGate had a little something to do...
WSMV, December 21, 2004
WSMV Channel 4 News did an excellent story last night on Lance Frizzell's blog from northern Iraq, a blog hosted here at billhobbs.com. The AP version of the Knoxville News Sentinel's story from yesterday is on WSMV's website, where you'll also find a link to the video of the story that aired on the news. You should also log on to Lance's blog and read through the comments, where you'll find many messages from people...
Zero to 60 in 2.4 Seconds, December 20, 2004
Lance Frizzell's blog from Iraq is off and running thanks to an Instapundit link in its first week and, now, a nice sendoff from Michael Silence, a reporter for the Knoxville News-Sentinel, in a front-page report in today's paper. Frizzell, a Tennessee National Guardsman, is blogging from Iraq on a blog I host here at BillHobbs.com. Excerpt:Second Lt. Lance Frizzell is with the Knoxville-based 278th Regimental Combat Team and is a medical platoon leader. "My...
It's A Small World, December 17, 2004
I know Lance Frizzell via my blog coverage of Tennessee politics and his civilian job as press secretary to the House Republican Caucus in the state legislature. Glenn Reynolds, a/k/a the Instapundit, knows Lance because of he plays with a Nashville rock band. Now the world knows Lance Frizzell as a member of the 278th Regimental Combat Team, blogging from Iraq. The blogosphere: Make the small world smaller all the time....
HobbsOnline Announces: New Blog From Iraq, December 13, 2004
Lance Frizzell, a longtime friend of this blog, has recently deployed to Iraq and will soon be blogging at a separate blog hosted here at BillHobbs.com....
HobbsOnline Announces: New Blog From Iraq, December 12, 2004
Lance Frizzell, a longtime friend of this blog, has recently deployed to Iraq and will soon be blogging at a separate blog hosted here at BillHobbs.com. Frizzell, until he was called up, was press secretary for the House Republican Caucus in the Tennessee state legislature. Now he is with the 3rd Squadron, 278th Regimental Combat Team, Tennessee National Guard. The 278th was most recently in the news for the flap over the shortage of armor...
Blog Turns 3, December 09, 2004
Argh. I just realized that the third anniversary of the inception of HobbsOnline passed ten days ago (on Nov. 30) and I forgot to mention it that day. Oh, well. It's been a great three years and I think I'm starting to get the hang of this thing called blogging. By the way, thanks to those of you who dropped something into one of the tip jars in the past few days - and thanks...
Fighting Back, December 03, 2004
This notice is for any of my readers who have subscribed to the email alert that this blog sends out any day the site is updated. That service is powered by Bloglet.com. I may have to suspend the service until I find a replacement. It seems that a series of email addresses tied to porn and gambling spam have been subscribed to the list and, although I'm not sure exactly how, it seems that the...
Every Vote Counts, December 02, 2004
I consider it an honor just to be nominated for a 2004 Weblog Award. I'm nominated in the "Top 100-250 Blogs" category, which I'm assuming refers to my TTLB Ecosystem ranking. I don't expect to win - c'mon, I'm in there with Michael Totten, Pejman, Patterico, Meryl Yourish, Ipse Dixit, Slant Point, and several other fine blogs. But thanks to whoever nominated me, and be sure to vote in all of the many categories in...
A Quick "Thank You", November 29, 2004
Thanks to all of you in the past several days who have bought something via the Amazon shopping links, clicked on one of the text ads served up by Google, or dropped a little something in the Amazon or PayPal tip jars. Blogging has been extra-light the last several days due to the holidays and family matters, and your continued support of this blog is much appreciated. HobbsOnline has been read by 35,000 different people...
Don't Get Malled, November 26, 2004
Today is the busiest shopping day of the year, the news always tells us, as crowds of Turkey-stuffed shoppers head to the malls to start their Christmas shopping. But if going to the crowded malls makes you wanna cry like a baby, you have an alternative. Shop online instead! You'll not only avoided crowded parking lots, jammed malls, surly clerks and pushing/shoving customers, you'll also be supporting this blog. By the way, the photo is...
Break Time, November 23, 2004
There will likely no more blogging here at all today - at least not until late this afternoon or evening if it all. Just a head's up. Feel free to hang out and look around. There's a lot of good stuff here you haven't read yet!...
Economic Activity Opportunity, November 22, 2004
I'd like to welcome my newest advertiser, MetroSpy, to BillHobbs.com. Check out their politically conservative merchandise here. Also new: The Common Virtue, a good blog by a military guy, and Professional Parks Inc., developer of state-of-the-art water slides, saunas, etc. With more than 31,000 unique visitors already this month, and 1.1 million pages viewed, November is already the third-best month ever for BillHobbs.com, trailing only the pre-election months of September and October, when traffic surged...

A Blogiversary Approaches, November 09, 2004
Just thought I'd mention that the last day of this month, just a few weeks from now, marks the third anniversary of the launch of HobbsOnline. [Blogiversary gifts willingly accepted...] This was my first post, dated Nov. 30. It actually was posted at my blog's original home, and transferred to this site when I moved my blog here in January 2004. That first post was read by, optimistically counting, six people, who found it via...
Blogads Sale, November 05, 2004
In the expectation that traffic to this blog and others is likely to fall off a bit now that the election has passed, I've cut prices on advertising on HobbsOnline. You can now advertise here for $50 for one month. Most of the current ads expire soon - making it a good time to grab a prime slot to reach about 2,000 readers per day....
Thanks for a Great Month, November 02, 2004
HobbsOnline exceeded its very generous bandwidth limit by more than 20 percent last month, as election-season interest reached a climactic high and nearly 58,000 different people visitied this blog during October. 3,800 different people read this blog yesterday alone. Thanks to you for dropping by, and a special thanks to those readers who have found this blog valuable enough during this critical campaign season to have dropped something in the Amazon or PayPal tip jars...
Another Record Month, November 01, 2004
57,806 different people read HobbsOnline during the month of October, a whopping 8,426 more than in the month of September. The single-most accessed page on this blog was my Voter Fraud archive, accessed 27,491 times....
After Nov. 2nd..., October 29, 2004
Just a head's up, but if President Bush wins re-election by a margin large enough to prevent the Democrats from trying again to steal it via the courts, I'll probably take a decently long break from extensive blogging. Oh, I'll post from time to time - I'm too addicted to it to quit cold turkey. But I can see this blog transforming, at least for a few weeks or maybe through the end of the...
BAH Humbug!, October 27, 2004
You may have noticed the photo that I call "Bah Humbug Baby" adorning an ad on the right side of the page. That's my son, Bennett Alexander Hobbs, starring in his first ad campaign, via a photo taken at Christmas time in 2002 when he was less than 4 months old. I placed the ad to remind you, my readers, that you can support the ongoing operation of this blog simply by doing some of...
Milestone, October 26, 2004
More than 50,000 different people have visited HobbsOnline this month, a new milestone for the blog. Thank you. The top visited page so far this month is my archive of voter fraud stories, accessed more than 23,000 times. Thanks to all of you in the blogosphere who linked to my voter fraud archive - that page is currently the number two search result when you Google voter fraud. Voter fraud is the number one search...
Blogging Forecast, October 22, 2004
Sorry for the light blogging today... my wife is in the hospital. Again. I've lost count how many times this year. They're going to name a suite for us. More light bloggage in the forecast for the weekend, though I will try to clear out the backlog of emails about voter fraud stories sent to me at voterfraud-at-gmail.com. I picked the wrong week to give up coffee....
I'm A Mile High, October 19, 2004
HobbsOnline has been added to the Friends of the Rocky Mountain Alliance of bloggers. Thanks, guys! Maybe one day I'll be a full-fledged member......
Thank You, October 18, 2004
HobbsOnline is averaging 4,400 visits per day this month, and has been read by more than 39,200 different people already this month, well on the way to the best month ever for this blog. Thank you....
Take A Break, October 15, 2004
Light to non-existent blogging this weekend unless major - and I mean MAJOR - news breaks. Have a great weekend. Do yourself a favor - don't read or watch news this weekend. Watch some football, play with your kids if you have some, try a new restaurant you've never been to, take a walk around your neighborhood with your spouse, and enjoy your part of America. The news, the politics, the campaign and the war...
Thanks, October 15, 2004
A quick thanks to all of you who have read HobbsOnline this month - over 32,000 different people already in October. It is humbling to realize that a little blog I started almost three years ago and was happy when my SiteMeter tripped over 30 readers a day now regularly tops 3,000. I also need to thank all of you who have donated via the tip jars or placed an ad, or shopped via the...
volunteeralliance.com, October 14, 2004
Other states have them and, soon, Tennessee will as well. Have what? A center-right alliance of political blogs. HobbsOnline will announce soon the details of the new Volunteer Alliance of high-quality Tennessee-based political blogs that are politically oriented center-right (in other words, mainstream). The Volunteer Alliance ... coming soon to the blogosphere near you... Will you be a part of it? Originally posted Oct. 13...
New Ad Space For Sale, October 11, 2004
The surge continues as HobbsOnline has been read by 20,000 different people already this month, with two thirds of October left. With the site averaging 3,744 visits per day (AwStats), HobbsOnline is on its way to its best month ever, likely to top last month's nearly 50,000 unique visitors and 3,714 visits per day. I am currently looking for a sponsor who wishes to advertise long-term on HobbsOnline in a new ad slot - at...
...And Climbing..., October 06, 2004
Nearly 50,000 unique visitors dropped by this blog at least once in September, according to AwStats. More than 10,500 different people dropped by in the first five days of this month. If you are one of them, I thank you for helping make the last five weeks the best ever - by far - for this blog. If you have participated in the site by posting comments, advertised on the site or clicked on an...
HobbsOnline To Be HobbsOnRadio, October 04, 2004
Northern Florida readers of HobbsOnline may wish to tune in to The David Allen Show on WJGR "The Patriot", located at 1320 AM on your radio dial, tonight starting at 9:30 p.m. in the Eastern time zone. (There's also a listen-online option, so my fans in Iceland can tune in.) I'll be a guest on the Jacksonville-based show with host David Allen for about 30 minutes discussing voter registration fraud and perhaps other issues. I'm...
Gratitude, October 04, 2004
Thanks to each and every one of you who either donated via the Amazon or PayPal tip jars or bought something via the Amazon links over the last few weeks. I take each donation as a compliment and as encouragement that I'm providing you a useful and valuable service....
Best Month Ever, October 01, 2004
Thanks to Dan Rather's journalistic malpractice and the intense interest in the subject of voter fraud, HobbsOnline was read by 49,380 different people at least once during the month of September. Source: Awstats. SiteMeter puts my total page views at around 125,000 in September, and my total visits at about 93,000.
