Sans Flames

A friend of mine who is the White House correspondent for Tribune Television's multiple stations just returned from a few days in New Orleans. This is one of the many pictures he emailed me. Grant's brief commentary on what he saw: "Just back from New Orleans. It was an awful city before the storm hit; it's Hell now."

I've asked for permission to post a few more of his pictures. Some show school buses being used to evacuate survivors. Of course, someone should have planned to do that implemented the plan to do that before the storm hit, perhaps with the 250 or so good buses parked in neat rows not far from the Super Dome.

The bureaucracy and its inertia are a big problem. There is a reason that the military trains and rehearses everything - its so things go right at the time they are needed the most. Thats what should have happened after Katrina and its what everyone expected.
