Bill, Speaking of ethics, did you hear that Tre Hargett is resigning his seat to become chief of lobbying TN & AL for Pfizer? it's in the CA and the KNS. He also sat on the House Ethics Committee. Posted by: LeftWingCracker at August 16, 2005 03:49 PM"There's a misunderstanding of what lobbyists do. It's not going around arm-twisting..." Uhhh yeah...we do get it. More like palm-greasing Ms. Carr. Hey, 45% ain't so bad by state gov't standards. That'll get you a passing grade on the Gateway exams and it's even HIGHER than the percentage of the education lottery revenue that goes to, you know, education. Posted by: Eric Holcombe at August 16, 2005 04:30 PMI hope Tre isn't going to go right out the door and come right back in to lobby Tennessee government. He is an awesome guy but I think it will look bad. He should wait a year whether it's legal or not. Posted by: Republican at August 16, 2005 07:40 PMThat's EXACTLY what he's going to do; he will be in charge of "governmental relations" for the states of Alabama and Tennessee, and he is moving to Middle Tennessee. So, when he gives a legislator $200 in Tunica, it will be in check form! Posted by: LeftWingCracker at August 16, 2005 08:21 PMI would guess that the chances are higher than ever that the legislature will pass a law similar to other states mandating a one-year break between being a lawmaker and lobbying the legislature. Tre may be jumping now to avoid falling under such a provision. Much as I believe there ought to be a one-year delay, you can't blame a young guy like Tre for making a legal move to take care of his family. I predict that we will see several more legislators make the switch to lobbying before such a one-year-delay provision passes - and that if it passes, it will not go into effect immediately, so that a few more lawmakers can also make the switch first. Now, who should be Minority Leader? I'd love to see Glen Casada giving Naifeh fits daily. Isn't putting the word ethics in same sentence with Naifeh a violation of grammar? Posted by: Tim Nunan at August 18, 2005 04:14 PMPost a comment
