Bredesen Continues Silence on Kelo Ruling

John Emison of Knoxville-based Citizens for Home Rule emails that Gov. Phil Bredesen continues to ignore a letter seeking a statement on the governor's position on the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision in Kelo v. New London. Emison writes...

I called the Governor's office today to ask when we can expect to get a reply from my July 13 letter to the Governor on eminent domain abuse.

I was switched to a very professional-sounding lady who assured me the Governor is well aware of the Citizens for Home Rule letter and he is studying the problem. The trouble is that all his time has been consumed with a heavy travel schedule as well as TennCare.

I am afraid there are a lot of office holders who have no idea how mad people are over the Kelo decision. It's ridiculous that the Governor doens't have a position on this issue and that he has not even taken the time to respond.

We wrote the Governor, the Chairman of TVA, the Knoxville mayor and the Knox County mayor a month ago and the only response we have gotten is from Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale who took the time to express his opposition to eminent domain abuse. It make one wonder if all the others are too busy planning an eminent domain abuse to keep them to busy to respond.

You can read CHR's letter here and Ragsdale's letter here.
