Kickin' Back in Iraq

Picture of 1LT Lance Frizzell, 278th Regimental Combat Team, TN National Guard, Diyala Province, Iraq. Picture taken at FOB Cobra which has National Guardsmen from Tennessee, Texas and Wisconsin. You can't see 'em, but the base is surrounded by insurgents who are on the verge of victory. Yeah, right. Photo found at RushLimbaugh.com's "Club Gitmo" photo collection. I want a Club Gitmo t-shirt.

Bill, please stop downplaying the situation over there now. The truth is that men and women are dying daily and many people don't know why for. The President didn't have a plan to win the peace or an exit strategy and it is the American troops who are now paying for it. To act like it is all peaches and cream now equivalent to saying we would be greeted as liberators on the way into Iraq. It just isn't true.

We need a new plan of action quickly because what we have in place now, just ain't working.

michaelyon.blogspot.com has some captivating posts on his blog about his adventures with the TN National Guard at FOB Cobra and elsewhere.

A coworker recently badgered me into reading the stuff on that blog, especially the posts about the TN National Guard. For a time at work today, I was not very productive.

Yon is a talented writer and his posts are amusing, compelling, poignant, and informative. I was pleased to see this post and picture here after reading about the TN National Guard at FOB Cobra earlier today.

Keep repeating it and hopefully it will come true: "There is no Iraqi insurgency."

But you cannot ignore these reports:

God, you are so boring, Hobbs. Yeah, he was kicking back and having a good old time in a province where 25 US servicemen have been killed in the past week. He must be in the rear with the gear. I bet all those Marine reservists who are laying it on the line in Hit and Haditha love to see some dumbass from TN yucking it up for his bros back home. Where is his rifle and why isn't he wearing his cover? If you knew shit about the military and being at an FOB, Hobbs, you'd ask the same question.

He's in a medical platoon.

Bill never said there was no insurgency. He said that insugents were not on the verge of victory.

You can't see 'em, but the base is surrounded by insurgents who are on the verge of victory. Yeah, right.

Right on Wally. It's amazing how the anti-war folks twist things to make them fit with their world view.

We didn't lose the Vietnam war in Vietnam, and we can't lose the Iraq war in Iraq...but we lost the first one here at home, and we could lose the second as well.

And just one more note for some people who don't seem to know much about how the military works--the reason we're losing more people right now is because we're going after the bad guys rather than sitting back and waiting for them to come to us. The largest operation in months is going on (not that you'd know that from watching TV news). It shouldn't come as a real surprise that the more aggressively we're pursuing the enemy, the more exposure our guys have. But it doesn't mean we're losing!

I'm curious to hear how Bob thinks we didn't lose the Vietnam War. Did we meet any of our objectives in going to war?

Posted by: Kevin Newman at August 11, 2005 01:38 PM

Kevin, Bob did not say we did not lose the Vietnam war.

He said we did not lose the Vietnam War in Vietnam, but we lost it at home.

He's right, actually. From a military and strategic POV, American forces were largely victorious in Vietnam, in terms of battles fought/battles won.

Even the Tet Offensive, which uninformed Americans who learned their history from Cronkite think was a defeat for American forces, was in fact a military victory.

Rush spent the first minute of his show today talking about Lance's picture. Last time he spent a minute talking about a cigar, there was a blue dress instead of an orange shirt.

I sent my buddy jarhead a response and I'm still waiting to hear back from him. One of the things I asked him (that can be reprinted in this family friendly space) is where exactly is the "rear" in Iraq?

He probably left a fake email address but it's worth a shot.

I wish Rush would mention Lance's blog!
