Republican ethics plan: stand by your members who took cash from the FBI. Posted by: Martin at August 10, 2005 12:23 AMTaking a cash contribution from the E-Cycle reps wasn't a crime. The FBI says several legislators took donations. Unfortunately cash donations are legal in Tennessee. The reason some legislators were indicted and some were not is that the indicted ones allegedly took legislative actions on behalf of E-Cycle in exchange for the cash. The reason Sen. DeBerry had to step down from the ethics panel is not that she took cash from E-Cycle, but that she LIED about it. Posted by: Bill Hobbs at August 10, 2005 06:51 AMWhat is getting lost here is that DeBerry took the money during a legislative session (May) - currently illegal. Miller accepted money out of session (Jan) - currently legal. Posted by: Lance at August 10, 2005 08:49 AMPost a comment
