The Truth About Tennessee Taxes

If I ever decide to stop writing about Tennessee's taxes and state budget, you can always turn to Mark Rose, who takes Nashville Is Talking's Brittney Gilbert, S-Town Mike and Jackson Miller to school on the issue with this masterful post.

It is a great post. Thorough and well-written. And while I've been schooled many a time, I don't think my posing one harmless question (to which his post was an answer) would be grounds for an actual "schooling."

It is amazing how many other peoples' opinions I'm pegged with merely because I reprint them at Nashville is Talking. Sometimes I will say, "So-and-so says the grass is green." And a commenter will respond, "You are a color-blind idiot!"

Oh well. Comes with the territory I guess.

Oh, he schooled me, alright. He taught me how to rely on secondary sources and cut and paste snippets without reference to a person's entire argument. That's quite an institution of higher learning Mr. Rose has got going there. The question remains unanswered: why was Councilmember Gotto given a free pass by TTR for supporting a tax increase alternative to the Mayor's budget after signing the no tax pledge? If it's not that TTR protects its political friends, then what is it?

Mr. Rose also taught me that you can fool most of the people most of the time if you refer to a special interest lobby group like TTR with biblical analogies like "David-and-Goliath story." Yeah, they all looked like lowly shepherd boys with slingshots standing around in the halls of state power the other day. And Steve Gill was practically carrying a lyre and singing Psalms. David-and-Goliath story? I don't think so.
