Flower Blogging

This past weekend, I spent a good deal of time in the car on the roads between my home in the Nashville suburbs and Shelbyville, Tennessee, where my daughter spent the weekend on a retreat with her track club. It's a beautiful part of the state, dotted with picturesque hills and fields and farms and I photographed all most none of it because it was raining. However, at the private farm south of Shelbyville, where the tracksters retreated for a weekend of games and bonding, I did take a few photographs of these flowers - and also of the barn where the tracksters spent the night while the remnants of Tropical Storm Arlene passed by overhead.

The third photo was taken alongside U.S. 41A just south of the unincorporated community of Rover, which has its boundaries marked by signs telling motorists Y'all Come Back! - and I plan to soon, when it isn't raining.

I shot the close-ups of the flowers with the Canon EF 28-135 zoom lens, which is the single most versatile camera lens I have ever owned. If you are considering buying one of Canon's fine digital SLRs, make room in your budget for this lens.

I'll be posting some of those barn photos tomorrow.

Bill, did you spritz water droplets on the flowers, or were you really out when the dew was still on the petals?

It had been raining - in fact, it was raining very very very lightly at the moment I took the pics.

Tennessee has got to be about the most beautiful state in the land of the free.

You know I always vote for more flower pictures. We are at the peak of daylilly season for the next week or so. You should see the beautiful mass plantings on the interstates in NC.
