« Run Hilleary Run! | Main | The Pepsi Rhetorician » May 19, 2005Corker, Closet DemocratHere's an update to the story of Tennessee Republican U.S. Senate candidate Bob Corker's decision to hold a fund-raiser hosted by Nashville businessman Clayton McWhorter, a well-known Democrat. According to a check of the Federal Election Commission's records, McWhorter has given $50,250 - from his personal account or from business accounts he controls - to Democratic candidates and Democratic Party organizations since 1994, mostly to Democrats running for Senate or Governor in Tennessee but also to such candidates as Illinois Senator Carole Moseley-Braun. That figure doesn't include the additional thousands of dollars contributed to Democratic Party candidates and organizations by other members of the McWhorter family. Of course, McWhorter is free to give to whatever party fits his ideological values and beliefs. That's not the issue. The issue is Corker - and his coziness with Democrats. McWhorter is not a bipartisan funder of candidates. He funds Democrats. He funds candidates who seek to advance the Democratic Party's agenda. He's helping Bob Corker hold a big fundraiser. But does he give to Republicans also? "Do the math." Posted by: Bob at May 20, 2005 03:34 PMCorker is a Republican. To call him anything else is dishonest. I cannot support Ed Bryant because of his past ties to Pat Robertson. In the '02 Senate campaign, I asked Bryant's staff if he would tell the truth about his past association with such a fraud, or if he would repudiate Robertson's extremist rhetoric post 9/11. I didn't get a straight answer, thus, one must assume that he is proud of his affiliation with Robertson. Posted by: Evangelist at May 30, 2005 01:47 PMPost a comment
