Bredesen's Blog

More reaction from around the blogosphere to the news that Tennessee's Gov. Phil Bredesen has started a blog. But first, Chris Bundgaard's WKRN News 2 story on Bredesen's new blog is hilarious. Text and video link here.

With the governor now joining Rep. Campfield, is blogging now the future up on Capitol Hill?

"Probably not," said Sen. Tim Burchett. "I really don't have the time to fool with it, to tell you the truth."

Sen. Burchett, a blog is the easiest way for you to communicate interactively with your constituents and the people of Tennessee. You don't have time to do that? Then you are way too busy. You should resign from the legislature and let someone else have the seat. Someone who cares about communicating with the people.

A reminder to all Tennessee state legislators: You can start your blog today at VolPols.com for free. If you change your mind, Sen. Burchett, please email me.

Now, for the blogosphere's reaction to Bredesen's new blog:

Doug Petch urges the blogging governor to "ask for some tips on how to use trackbacks and comments to make his efforts truly interactive."

Steven Cohen (no not this one), writes: "While I love that high office officials get it, with no RSS feed this is just a plain old web page to me. Sigh! So close."

Matt White writes: " I hope he's going to run his blog and not pass it off to some flunkie in the press office to post press releases and other official communique. ... If his blog becomes a place where he shares some of his thoughts and inside baseball on what he's doing, I'll be the first to praise his openness. If this is the work of a flunkie in the press office, then I'll let him have it. My senses are acutely attuned to the work of such flunkies as I used to be one myself."

Blake Wylie hopes Bredesen's blog isn't just another outlet for press releases. He writes: "I hope that he actually writes it (as opposed to dictating it and having a staff member write it) and it is not just another way for him to issue standard press releases in a 'blog format.' If that's the case, then it's not really a blog. However, I will give him the benefit of the doubt and welcome his apparent willingness to facilitate more open communication with the citizen's of Tennessee."

Joe at the Chattanooga-Hamilton Civic Forum blog writes: "I don't remember running into him at BlogNashville, but, hey. Cool."

State Rep. Stacey Campfield - Tennessee's first blogging state legislator - welcomes Bredesen to the Tennesseee political blogosphere: "It's good to see him recognize the “blogosphere” and the role it is playing in government. I understand the political risks of taking comments, but I hope he joins me in accepting input from constituents."

He also offers House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh help in setting up his own blog. I have a similar offer for all state legislators.

Commonwealth Conservative, the blog of an elected district attorney in Virginia, praises Bredesen for joining the blogosphere: "I’ll be launching a blog soon for my office, to help us keep the public up to date on what’s happening. It’s a wonderful tool, and I’m glad to see a Governor taking advantage of it."

Bill, I think your VolPols project is a great idea. I blogrolled Bredesen's blog (?) immediately yesterday when you posted the news. Are you planning on having ALL Tennessee Reps and Senators listed on VolPols, regardless of where and how they are hosted?
