« State Income Tax Ban Stalls | Main | Dictator Update: HB 0887 Dead » May 4, 2005Dictator UPDATE: WSMV's Bias is Showing
So, then, WSMV's story last night on the controversy was in every way it could be a complete failure to commit responsible, honest journalism. Blake Wylie has more, including a link to the WSMV story. (And it's a good thing Wylie caught it because I rarely watch WSMV anymore. They used to be good at journalism, but not anymore.) For my past related entries, see the end of this post Everyone at WSMV involved in producing their story last night should be ashamed. They produced an inaccurate, false and biased report. The truth is out there, thanks to blogs - but no thanks to WSMV. WSMV's Alan Frio stated: "Speaker Naifeh squashed the bill when it got out of the Constitutional Protections subcommittee on procedural issues - in other words, Republicans didn't follow House rules." Frio, it seems, has better command of his hair than of his facts. Fact 1: The only people claiming House rules were broken in the subcomittee are opponents of the bill. Fact 2: Video exists of Naifeh breaking House rules to force the bill back to the subcomittee. You might want to email Frio and ask him to issue a correction. Ask him to be an honest reporter like Chris Bundgaard at WKRN who, when shown that he had made a mistake in his report on this story, quickly acknowledged it and corrected it. Send him the link to this post: Tell Alan that truth is out there. Tell him all of the relevant video, plus statements from witnesses and from some of the people involved, are available on this blog or via this blog's links to other blogs. If Alan Frio and WSMV can't be bothered to prepare a thorough report, they should at least help their viewers find it by posting links to the blogosphere's coverage on their website. WSMV's report on their morning show today was so bad as to be bizarre. The story was "a controversial gun bill will be voted on today in sub-committee." As if the story was about a gun bill. As if gun bills weren't voted on (and killed) in subcommittees on a regular basis. The story of HB887 is Mr. Naifeh's attempt at obstructing the procedural process of the House. If you don't report THAT there is no story. Bill, I disagree that WSMV is simply being bias--I'd contend at this point they are being partisan. Posted by: sbk at May 4, 2005 03:40 PMI emailed Frio re: the story basically with the complaint that Naifeh attacked the bill in order to distract the media regarding his actions on the floor--and it worked! I received this response from Mr. Frio: Theresa: Alan Frio Post a comment
