Bredesen AWOL on Legislature's Ethics Crisis

The Tennessee state legislature is wracked by ethical problems, rated one of the most corrupt legislatures in the nation, beset by all sorts of conflicts of interests, has numerous legislators proposing and passing bills that impact the industries they work in or have financial interests in, and is essentially run by lobbyists. So, what is Gov. Phil Bredesen trying to do about it? Absolutely nothing.

Governor Bredesen says he's going to stay out of the debate over ethics reform. ... Bredesen said he wouldn't presume to tell the Legislature what to do.
On the most important issue currently facing the Tennessee legislature, Gov. Bredesen is providing no leadership.

Bredesen AWOL on ethics? I have to disagree about this because as far as I know Bredesen has never done anything unethical. Not in his business life and not in his public life. If I am wrong about this I would appreciate it if you would tell me what crimes he has committed or in what way he is immoral. Otherwise you should not be casting aspersions upon his name and life.

It seems to be a trait or tactic of the right to make personal attacks on Democrats and there is a double standard in how people are treated. One example is regarding lying - Republicans mis-speak, Democrats lie. Bill Clinton was impeached for lying but Bush was ignored when he lied us into war.

Considering all of this it seems to me that rightwingers are not so concerned about ethics, they are just engaging in the politics of personal destruction which in itself is unethical.

Yeula, if you are going to comment, please do so accurately. I didn't say Bredesen was "awol on ethics." I said he was awol on the legislature's ethics crisis. You set up a straw man and then knocked it down. But you didn't comment on what I said, which was that Bredesen is not providing leadership on legislative ethics reform.

Same song, same verse:
The best way to enforce ethics is to use open book management. The best (or a darned good) method is to provide a number crunchable state budget. If we can see where the money is going, we can follow the trail. Vote "Technotarian" and put an end to the iddatarate politician!
