« What About the Pope? | Main | Bredesen: I Like Hillary » April 5, 2005Poll Shows Bryant Would Beat Hilleary, Corker - and FordA poll reportedly commissioned by Congressman Harold Ford Jr.'s proto-Senate campaign poll shows him leading in the Democratic primary race that he hasn't even officially entered, and shows that in the Republican primary former Congressman Ed Bryant has a near double digit lead over former Congressman Van Hilleary, with Chattanooga Mayor Bob Corker a very distant third, reports the TeamGOP.org blog. The poll also shows that, if the election was today, Ford would lose to either Bryant or Hilleary but competitive with former Chattanooga Mayor Bob Corker by a solid margin. Details, numbers and polling questions here. TeamGOP doesnt' say where it got a copy of the Ford campaign's poll. The poll has one big drawback: it didn't include GOP Senate candidate Beth Harwell. Still, the poll is good news for Bryant, whose campaign already made a strong case last week that Hilleary is a weak candidate, using hard data. Now it has numbers from the Ford campaign showing his strength in both the GOP primary and the general-election campaign against Ford. Posted in 2006 TN Senate Race

I was thinking "Bear Bryant" when I saw the headline. I'm not sure how he'd fare in Tennessee. He'd still win easily in Alabama, even though he's been dead since 1982. Ford Jr has done a terrific job of cultivating a national image, and as such, will likely attract a lot of support nationally. Bryant does not appear to have sufficent margin at this point. -SpinDaddy Posted by: SpinDaddy at April 6, 2005 11:57 AMPost a comment
