The London Times Thinks Bredesen is Swell

Tennessee Gov. Phil Bredesen gave an interview to the London Times which writes a rather fawning story about Bredesen's gubernatorial record and presidential chances.

Bredesen, 61, was giving his first interview to a foreign newspaper since his emergence earlier this year as a potential dark horse in the presidential race. It appeared to reflect an attempt to raise his international profile amid increasing speculation in Washington that he may become the next southern governor to come from obscurity to take the White House.
It's mostly a cheerleading piece for the false notion that Bredesen represents some new kind of Democrat, and the equally false notion that Bredesen is both beloved and unbeatable in Tennessee.

Bredesen was elected because voters believed he had the healthcare industry expertise to fix TennCare without raising taxes. Period. More than two years into his first term, Bredesen has been a spectacular failure at fixing TennCare, and TennCare is headed for one of two disastrous outcomes. Either 323,000 poor, sick and old Tennesseans are going to pay for his ineptitude by losing their healthcare coverage - or a federal court will block those cuts and Bredesen will be forced to the brink of a tax increase to keep the program going.

Neither looks like reform, and neither is what the people of Tennessee voted for in November 2002.

Thanks for blogging Bill Hobbs. This country could use a lot more bloggers like you.

Also, taking cues from previous anti-tax rallies such as those held in 2001 and 2002 in Tennessee that successfully forced Tennessee's state legislature to abandon the idea of enacting a state income tax, Durgin is hoping to mass thousands of people on the steps of the Pennsylvania state capitol to educate the public and protest the income tax fraud and the government's refusal to address the issue.

Bredesen wasn't elected soley for fixing TennCare. Bredesen was elected because Van Hileary ran a terrible campaign and couldn't even get his own Republicans to vote for him.

Bredesen was elected, at least in part, because his opponent and the previous Republican Governor were idiots.

I think a lot of folks are forgetting that Bredesen put $3 million of his own money in the race in the last 7 days. In a statewide contest decided by 58k votes, that's the difference. It's reflected in the tracking polls of both campaigns.
