Pictures of the Truth

8,989 different people saw 1Lt. Lance Frizzell's photos from Iraq that I posted here yesterday. That's 8,989 people who got a little different view of Iraq than that which the mainstream media doles out on a daily basis, thanks to Frizzell, who hails from Rutherford County, Tennessee, and is deployed with the Tennessee National Guard's 278th Armored Cavalry.

Think about it - when is the last time you saw pictures of happy Iraqi children in your local dail newspaper? If ever? The MSM will tell you about the insurgent attacks and the number of American dead (and sometimes the number of Iraqi dead), but they rarely bother to tell the many more numerous stories of American and Iraqi successes - successes often won not with bombs and bullets but with rag dolls, fresh fruit, medical care and fresh water. But happy kids smiling at U.S. service men and women is a daily - probably hourly - occurence in Iraq, as they welcome the help they are being given.

It's also routine in Afghanistan, another theater of the War on Terror where to forces of freedom and democracy are on the march. Check out this blog from 2Lt. Luke Lazzo, a soldier serving with 2nd Platoon, Weapons Company, 3d Battalion, 3d Marines, in Afghanistan, who started his blog to keep family and friends of his platoon informed about their activities during their deployment to Afghanistan.

It would be so simple for the newspaper in Lazzo's hometown, or Frizzell's hometown, to email Lazzo or Frizzell for permission to republish their photos and text, and then do so. And it would make for a great feature spread in their hometown newspapers. Editors at any newspaper could do this if a soldier from their market area is deployed to Iraq or Afghanistan and is posting photos and stories to a blog. If they did, I predict, it would be very popular with their readers and even attract some new readers. Why they don't is a mystery to me.

Memo to newspaper editors: Mine the blogosphere!

Mr Hobbs if you are truly mystified at why the newspapers don't publish the photos of the joyful people of Afganistan and Iraq maybe I can enlighten you with a few of my ideas about it.

When Al Gore got more votes then George Bush IT DIDN'T MATTER! Bush got in the white house anyway. When they wanted to "rearrange" the middle east but realized they would have to lie to the American people because we would never go along with them, they did what they had to do to get their way.

The Bush administration OUTED AN UNDERCOVER AGENT OF THE CIA because her husband exposed their lies about Saddam's connection to Africa, which was intended to convince Americans Saddam was building a bomb. Did you forget that we didn't go to Iraq to free people or make them happy but to kill them because Saddam supposedly had WMD??? Maybe you never should have had that lobotomy.

Didn't the right IMPEACH a legally elected POTUS for lying about a blowjob! Do you think your priorities just might need a slight bit of tweeking? Do you people have built-in anti-fact blockers that prevent you from acknowledging facts if they reflect negetively on your dogma about republicans?

It doesn't matter what the people want. It doesn't matter what the people know. So why bother putting pictures of happy children on tv? Especially when the very next day you may want to demonize people who look just like them in order to stir Americans to hate so we can bomb another country.

Remember how Americans used to be gungho to BOMB the Iraqis and Afganistanis and how we locked them away without due process. Remember when they were called ragheads. Remember when Oklahoma City was blamed on them because the nation is so prejudiced against them? Are we really supposed to believe that we went over there because we are bleeding hearts who couldn't bear to think Arabs didn't have Democracy?

Remember the comments of the neo-cons about Iraq sitting on a "vast sea of oil"? I do. But I don't recall any of them respecting Democracy in this country or anywhere else.

A man who was illegally chosen by the Judicial Branch of the US government and placed in the White House loves Democracy so much he just had to give it to iraqis? This same man had the legally elected leader of Hati kidnapped and taken out of his own country but we're supposed to believe he wanted to give Iraqis freedom?

The rightwing rank and file have to be braindead to believe this.

It doesn't matter what impression Americans have of what is going on in the middle east because decisions about our foreign policy are not under our control.

Reporting about happy children and GIs helping the people rather then torturing them would be superfulous. Better for the media to distract the people with braindead women, keep them scared by allowing bin laden to roam around as the boogy man that haunts their unconscious.

Better to saturate the public airwaves with lowbrow scripted "reality" shows and force Americans to be spectators to their government rather then involved citizens.

You will use these pictures to promote your propaganda til the time is right to switch and began to demonize the people of the middle east again. Rank and file republicans will follow your lead as they always do and George Orwell is alive and thriving in America.

I support the United States Constitution.

I support international law.

I support a government OF THE PEOPLE, BY THE PEOPLE AND FOR THE PEOPLE.

I believe we are a nation of laws and not men.

I believe it is HIGH TREASON AND AN IMPEACHABLE OFFENSE TO violate the US Constitution.

I do not understand people who are willing to trash our Constitution because they have so much vested in a party or a man.

I will defend the Constitution and I don't care if its George Bush or Hillary Clinton who violates it I swear before God I will attempt to bring them to justice. I regret that others are willing to lose it all and are nothing but followers who act like mindless dittoheads. Saddam was never the enemy to this country that George Bush and the rightwing are.

You wanted to invade Iraq because of WMD. Now you claim it was to give the people Democracy. I remember what you were saying when those of us who were against this war protested. I remember how you told us we hated America because we didn't want to kill people who had done nothing to us and we knew Bush was LYING about WMD. Now you pretend you want truth from the media about Iraq. HA! Truth is the last thing you want. You are experts at creating whatever 'truth' will get you what you want.

History shows us how these things will end. History shows us how men like Bush end. When justice finds a way I hope God has mercy on those who committed a holocaust against the people who survived to have their pictures taken to be used as propaganda because I vow before God Almighty that I will not.

I don't read my local paper anymore, so I can't answer if they have ever shown happy Iraqi children. But one reason I stopped reading my local paper is that I can't count on them doing something like that.

Lets face it, making war is fast superceding sports as the American national pastime. Since 1980, overtly or covertly, the United States has been involved in military actions in Grenada, Libya, Nicaragua, Panama, Iraq, Afghanistan, El Salvador, Haiti, Somalia, Yugoslavia, Liberia, Sudan, the Philippines, Colombia, Haiti (again), Afghanistan (again) and Iraq (again) and that's not even the full list.
