« The Future of TV News | Main | 16 States Considering Taxpayers Bill of Rights » March 28, 2005Eight Is EnoughNow this is hilarious: No less than eight states claim to be 49th in spending on public schools, according to Vicki Murray, Ph.D., director of the Goldwater Institute's Center for Educational Opportunity. That's right, eight out of 50 claim to be 49th, including Tennessee. The others are Florida, Illinois, Idaho, Louisiana, Pennsylvania, Utah and Arizona. Posted in Education

I guess they all claim to be better than Mississippi! Posted by: Mike at March 29, 2005 07:48 AMIt's a false statistic, anyway. Somebody has to be "last", but if they're all within 1% of each other, what does it matter? I don't know what the actual spread is for education spending, but I remember when IU faculty were griping that they were the worst paid in the Big 10, when in reality they were making something like 5% less than the top-paid school- which also happened to be located in an area with a far higher cost of living. "We spend the least on education" really doesn't mean anything. Posted by: Michael Chaney at March 29, 2005 10:34 AMPost a comment
