News from the Blogosphere

Faith-blogging is the subject of this story from the NYT news service, which looks at blogging by Mormons, Muslims and Christians.

Christian God-bloggers are planning their first gathering at a GodBlogCon at Biola University in La Mirada, Calif., Oct. 13-15. Planned workshops include "Blogging Pastors" and "Using Blogs for Online Activism and Evangelism."
I would love to attend that gathering.

In other blogosphere news, the BBC looks at Iranian blogging, the AP looks at bloggers who were fired when their blogs crossed their employer's company line, WebProNews reports that IBM has 2,800 employees writing blogs, Corante (for whom I used to write a daily blog on e-commerce news) analyzes the news that Yahoo is investing in blogging, and MediaPost reports that Friendster is building a blogging platform. Also, Mark Tapscott has several good posts today about blogs and campaign finance reform, (also this one), and the bloggy future of journalism.

And finally, via Instapundit, I found a blog post from Indian blogger Dina Mehta about the growth of blogging in India. Instapundit also has links today to blogs from Egypt and Syria.

I'm currently finishing a great book about the evolution of journalism in the age of blogging, former San Jose Mercury News technology columnist Dan Gillmor's We The Media. By coincidence, my father-in-law, a Pulitzer Prize-winning former newspaper editor who now heads a large First Amendment nonprofit organization, just got a copy of the same book. I'll be interested to hear his perspective on the book.

Don't forget the BlogNashville conference coming up May 5-7 in Nashville - We the Media author Dan Gillmor is one of the many big names from the blogosphere you're likely to find on the event agenda.

UPDATE: Welcome, Instapundit readers. Please also see this subsequent post about blogs, looking at the question of why they are needed in the first place.

GodBlogCon is something I've been excited about since it was first announced. I plan to be there, and I'm trying to convince one of my co-bloggers to go.

By the way, whatever happened to "ChristianPundit.com" ?
