Isn't there something to be said as well for a military establishment that has routinely misled and deceived recruits in order to keep the numbers up? Under the new paradigm, a soldier is not so much signing up to serve his or her country as to invest faith in leadership that may not have the country's interests at heart. This is textbook for how an incompetent and disingenuous leader at the top can affect everybody. My guess is that this young man is more than willing to serve. He just needs a just cause.
