« Milestone | Main | One in A Thousand » October 26, 2004OHIO GOP Challenges 35,000 Voter Registrations
Taft told CNN’s Bill Hemmer that in four Ohio counties, more people have registered to vote than live in those counties and are of voting age. "We have four counties where you have more voters registered than you have 18 and over population," Taft said.I'm going to bet that ACORN and Project Vote are involved. Taft says he hopes the heightened level of scrutiny will lead to "an accurate count for the State of Ohio." Taft said vote monitors will seek to "make sure that a voter is a citizen, 18 and over, and a resident of the precinct and county where they plan to vote."Which is as it should be. Bill, I've come to believe that the best course of action America could take after this election is for the Fed to mandate that all voter rolls be completely purged. Dump them all and start over. Everyone who wants to vote in the next election must reregister showing a valid ID, SSN and proof of residence in their voting precinct. This is the only way we'll ever clean up the system. Jim Posted by: Jim at October 27, 2004 07:43 AMOne other point, These get-out-the-vote groups need to reigned in. They should be limitted to counseling people to register. Not actually handling the registration themselves. There too much opportunity for fraud. If they want to urge people to vote, thats great. They can offer them a ride to the election office to register. All voter registrations must be done in person to avoid fraud. Jim Posted by: Jim at October 27, 2004 07:48 AMAMEN. Posted by: JDG at October 27, 2004 09:47 AMI disagree. The most fundamental right we have in a democracy is to vote, and the side that works against people exercising that right--and let's be honest, we all really know that is what is involved--can hardly lay claim to a Christian mantle. Working against new voter registration seems inconsistent with everything I've been taught about Christianity. If Bush really is God's candidate, why not let people vote and see where the chips fall? It would certainly be more righteous. Posted by: greg at October 27, 2004 11:31 AMWorking against new voter registration is un-American. Working against voter fraud is not. Every vote cast by an ineligible voter - whether because they are a felon, underage, voting more than once or a non-citizen - potentially nullifies the vote of an eligible voter. And as an eligible voter I find that offensive and an assault on my democratic rights. Posted by: Elisa at October 27, 2004 11:45 AMThere was widespread voter fraud in both the 2000 and 2002 election cycles. Does anyone remember hearing about anyone being prosecuted for voter fraud? The only way to stop this stuff is to make those responsible pay, and pay heavily. Anyone deliberately and knowingly assisting in registering someone that is not eligible to vote should lose their own right to vote - plus put enough time in at the county jail that everyone working there knows them from LONG experience. We have the laws on the books, just not the guts to enforce them. Until we do, this kind of stupidity will continue. Posted by: Old Patriot at October 27, 2004 12:49 PMWhy not do as in Mexico and require all who vote to have silver nitrate applied to their finger--then if they try to vote twice the hand is examined under ultraviolet light--causing the hand to glow if the person has already voted. Posted by: jim at October 28, 2004 06:43 AMThe social security number is a reasonable method of assuring 1 person 1 vote. If a person does not have a social security number, then provide them with a provisional ballot. Count the social security ballots according the stated residence on the most recent federal tax return. If there are more provisional ballots in a state than the separtion of votes between the two candidates cast by those who supplied SSNs, then and only then does it become necessary to screen the provisional ballots. If a provisional ballot cannot be verified using reasonable method to contact the voter, then the contents of that envelope is not opened and is not included in the tally. Who do you know who does not have a SSN card, only persons who have never held a job, opened a bank account, or do not want to be discovered or identified. Posted by: Bruce at October 28, 2004 08:44 PMTurns out this challenge wasn't about voter fraud. It was about trying to steal the election for Bush. Why am I not surprised that Banana Republicans keep on trying this stuff? http://www.ohio.com/mld/beaconjournal/10042113.htm?1c Criminals. Posted by: Geek, Esq. at October 29, 2004 11:10 AMYou should include Michael Badnarik, Michael Peroutka and David Cobb in your poll. Badnarik and Peroutka are on more ballots than Nader. How can you put Nader on your poll and not Michael Peroutka? Constitution Party Member Posted by: John at October 29, 2004 10:04 PMAnd interesting how Pennsylvania started off the day with several thousand votes registered for Bush on its voting machines before the polls opened. Put that bee in your christian bonnets and ride up and down on it for a while. Fools. Posted by: Michael Moore at November 2, 2004 02:11 PMI see Michael Moore is up to his fictional dillusions again. In fact, it was the republicans who spotted the"pre-loaded" machines and brought them to election officials' attention. The legal wrangling and illegal activities of both parties is deplorable. What will we have next after all attempted vote manipulations and the dead people, illegal aliens, felons, and those going from precinct to precinct casting their ballots have voted? Will it be citizens from other countries casting ballots? Or will we allow Osama Bin Laden to vote? Seems we already have on the latter. Such a shame people are so easily swayed into apologizing to this heathen. Posted by: Michael Ferrari at November 2, 2004 03:45 PMmy brother is certified to vote but the board of election will not allow him to vote. My brother doesnt have any felonies and the board of elections in the city of urbana, ohio just plain out told him" you cant vote." My question is who do I contact? I already contacted the state and they haven't gotten back to me. Posted by: frank at November 2, 2004 06:04 PMYou should definitly contact anyone from on this blog. When it boils down to it, the people who believe God loves Bush will do whatever is necessary to get him elected (and help God.) Anyone who believes God loves the super rich and powerfull who use his name to get elected should read their own bible and stop depending on conservative media to tell them what "God wants". P.S. Try the ACLU for help on the voter fraud. Posted by: Scotty at November 4, 2004 04:18 PMThere was clearly fraud on both sides: Repubs pointing out the fraud by the Dems makes them no less suspicious or guilty of it. There are regions where Bush recieved thousands of votes more than there were registered voters. The ACORN and NAACP "bustings" cast a long shadow across the legitimacy on the Dems side. Many legitimate votes were held up in 5+ hour "verifications" while inspectors, mostly Republican, were out to lunch and people stood in the rain. Many people polling door to door to find out who was planning and who was not planning on voting were doing so, again, on both sides, in order to see which false registrations would be "safe bets." The hacker community is laughing at the "security" that voting tabulation centers have. News agencies simply requesting information were "accidentally" given access to the voting data. Only naivete would allow someone to claim one side or the other scot-free of fraud. The bottomline is, in a large city like Chicago, it's taxing enough to keep track of parking tickets over the course of months, who in their right mind would believe that there is any 100% failsafe method of tallying millions upon millions of votes efficiently, securely, and fairly? There are so many gaping holes in the system and so many zealots on both sides it isn't hard to add them together to see the result, year after year. Anything claiming their side did not or otherwise sensationalizing the other side's indulging in fraud as "impartial news" is just more partisan twaddle to toss onto the heap of nonsense, alongside any zealot's party-flag waving and their black and white philosophies and pseudo-problem solving proposals. Posted by: master at November 6, 2004 03:54 PMRequiring everyone to re-register won't end our election problems... we need to have a nation election system, that way people wont be confused when they are voting. also, we need a national voting machine with a printable reciept so voters can verify that there vote is going towards who they voted for. also the receipt would serve as a paper trail. how come we get a receipt for a 50 cent doughnut but i cant verify who i'm voting for?
