More on that Disgusting Democrat Poster

I am sending the following open letter via email to Tennessee state Rep. Craig Fitzugh regarding the disgusting anti-President Bush flier that was being handed out in his campaign office, which also serves as the local campaign office of the Kerry-Edwards campaign in that part of West Tennessee.

Dear Rep. Fitzhugh,

poster.jpgAs an American, a Tennessean, and a Christian, I am appalled by the flier that was being handed out in your campaign office in Ripley in recent days mocking people with mental disabilities. The poster portrays President George W. Bush as a special-needs child running a race in the Special Olympics, and has these words on it: Voting for Bush is like running in the Special Olympics. Even if you win, you're still retarded.

The flyer is appalling in its callous disregard for children with Down's Syndrome and other mental or physical disabilities - and for the parents who love them.

Did you know this flyer was being distributed from your campaign office? If so, why did you allow it? If not, the question remains why do you have people working for your office who would resort to this sort of tactic to win an election? Is holding your seat in the Tennessee legislature that important to you?

Or will you apologize?

Sincerely,
Bill Hobbs

Is this thing real, or a fake? It sure seems like political suicide to me. How could anybody other than a grade-school kid come up with something like this, let alone circulate it under his name?

It was distributed in his campaign office. You could pick it up there. It is not fake. Some stoopid staff probably did it.

These actions show that the democratic party is not the party of the disenfranchised but of the disenfranchising.

Posted by: Scary Kerry at October 13, 2004 12:21 PM

Wow. This is stooping to a new low for the democrat party.

Posted by: Evan at October 13, 2004 01:20 PM

Maybe, but it's hilarious.

Matt Drudge apparently has the story posted.

Posted by: Brian O. at October 13, 2004 01:28 PM

It's from an old internet picture with the caption, "Arguing over the internet is like running in the Special Olympics, even if you win you're still retarded."

Not a very politically correct comment, but I admit I find it funny.

Pasting George Bush's head on it is rather uncreative. I expect better wit out of the Democrats.

Bill,

I hope you do not mind if I "borrow" a bit of bandwidth by linking to the image and the post.

This is not the first time the Democrats have done this.

On October 28, 1994, while in Virginia, then-Vice President Al Gore attacked Oliver North's Senate bid supporters as "the extreme right wing, the extra chromosome right wing." Advocates for those with Down's Syndrome, caused by an extra chromosome, were outraged.
ne this.

This is hilarious - it's just some in office humor, don't take it seriously.

Posted by: Mark at October 13, 2004 04:11 PM

Bush started a war with lies and got thousands of people killed, yet you want an apology for THIS? Oh please. Your moral indignation may make you feel special, but it's almost as funny as the poster.

Posted by: Unapologetic at October 13, 2004 06:28 PM

What a bunch of retards.

Lectures from conservatives about political correctness?! I'm going outside to check for signs of Revelations!

Tasteless, yeah...uncreative, yeah...funny? Maybe 4 years ago.

Figures - leave it to one of the so-called "bleeding heart liberals" to call someone a retard. All this political correctness they try to shove down your throat and now they're the ones being the jerks.

After seeing Hussein's pit of death with the babies and the mothers. You know, the one where the infants were blown away by a bullet while in the mother's arms as well as other children who were murdered by that creep - I'm glad were free of his stench.

All the more to Bush. Kerry wouldn't have had the guts to do it, neither would have Al Gore.

I'm not familiar with Fitzhugh and his tactics. Is there any precedent of him doing something like this?

[Karl] Rove acknowledges that, in 1970, he used a false identity to gain entry to the campaign offices of Illinois Democrat Alan Dixon, who was running for state treasurer. Once inside, Rove swiped some letterhead stationery and sent out 1,000 bogus invitations to the opening of the candidate's headquarters promising "free beer, free food, girls and a good time for nothing."
