« At the Crossroads of War and Peace | Main | Voter Fraud Roundup » October 7, 2004Reporter Tells His Critic To Keep BloggingA Memphis political reporter admits to being a fan of the blog dedicated to criticizing him and exposing the flaws and bias in his work - and urges the blogger to resume his suspended blog. One of my strangest all-time experiences was becoming a fan of a weblog - the now-defunct, or at least moribund, halfbakered.blogspot.com, operated by one Mike Hollihan and named in my, er, honor. Actually, the blog's stated purpose was to counter me in my role, as Hollihan saw it, as "liberal shill." ...This you gotta read. And, Mike, the answer to your question is, you are a citizen, a taxpayer, and an owner of First Amendment rights. Posted in Blogging & Journalism

Wonderful. Baker's known about me for a couple of years. Reread the thing; there's a lot of snide condescension in it. He waits until my blog goes down to write this. (Note that his paper couldn't find any other Memphis blogs to write up, and we have dozens.) And now that I'm gone, I'm gonna get both an Instalanche and a Hobbslide. Just f'ing wonderful.... Posted by: mike hollihan at October 7, 2004 07:21 PMWow, Hollihan, I hope that's wasn't really you who wrote the comment. I didn't detect anything other than warm regard, certainly not condescension. Few critics are so well received at their height, much less after they've reached some sort of low. You'd have been so much better off just thanking your bete noir for his kind remarks and leaving it at that. Posted by: Doug at October 7, 2004 07:30 PMA phenomenon has been happening at my blog. On occassion, I get fed up with blatantly misleading reporting/editorializing in the news on our local talk radio station. So, I post on it, usually in open letter format, and I name names. And... about half the time, one or another of the other talk hosts will decide later in the day to send listeners to my blog... it's always a different post, but coincidence of coincidences, the reader must scroll down past the "rant" to find it.... Happened again today, and one of the first hits was from a competing station's domain. They're attention, even when they won't admit it. Posted by: Kate at October 7, 2004 07:42 PMMike, I'm not from Memphis, have no ties to Memphis, and honestly don't think about Memphis that much, until they play my little Mav's about 4 to 6 times a year. (Good up and coming team by the way - getting Jerry West was a great move, and he's made some great moves for y'all.) However, the post from the BlogFather piqued my curiosity, and Hobbsie's post made me even more curious. So I read the article from your nemisis, and I think you and Doug are both right to some degree. --From your point of view: he was a little snarky and condescending (the whole "Old man with the Playboy" was a somewhat unnecessary), yet did have what I considered were some valid points Whether you start your blog back is entirely up to you, and where you are in your life right now. I will almost assuredly not read it, except possibly by sheer happenstance I get re-directed there. I'd have no need to, as the inner machinations of Memphis and a journalist in Memphis affect me not one whit. But I agree with Baker in that you, and those like you, whether covering Memphis, the media, the election, or fuzzy puppies are the new pioneers in this great frontier. This is exactly what internet should be. I have been through Memphis though - twice! Posted by: Bradley Hampton at October 7, 2004 08:42 PMAnd yet I can announce on my blog I'm going to my Governor's event, stand 2 feet away from him snapping pictures and writing down everything he says giggling hysterically, and his security detail doesn't even look at me funny. *ssiiigh* Posted by: Aaorn at October 8, 2004 12:38 AMGo back to bloggin dude. Well, at least this is my opinion. That Baker guy wasn't too bad, actually he was quite honest about a big truth: the blogosphere is the future right now, a new frontier, as he says. God bless you Mike and take care. Greeting and blessings also to Bill, the host here, and to everybody around. Posted by: Miguel at October 8, 2004 03:08 AM
On a lighter note, all I ask is please, keep showing Ann Coulter in tight, black leather. Posted by: Marty at October 8, 2004 07:16 AMPost a comment
