Hah!

Blogger Robert Cox of The National Debate is being threatened by CNN for this parody page. Memo to CNN: I and other bloggers are already starting to mirror Cox's page on our blogs . And because we are doing it as part of reporting on the conflict between CNN and Cox over the original parody page, our copies are being posted as part of journalistic coverage of the story and, therefore, completely and totally protected by the First Amendment. And so you'll back down. Just like the New York Times did in a similar situation back in March.

Bill,

You may want to consider mirroring this page:

http://moorelies.com/extras/CNNpoll.html

That link is an exact duplicate of TND's original parody except I added a bar across the top explaining the page w/a link back to the explanatory post on TND.

Here's my take:

Thanks. Will do. By the way, you can use basic HTML in comments, to put links as hyperlinks.

The parody page is served as text/plain, i.e.

HEAD http://billhobbs.com/hobbsonline/cnnparodypage

produces (among other things)

Server: Apache
Content-Length: 46555
Content-Type: text/plain

On Mozilla it therefore shows as a page of HTML source, although Safari interprets it. You might want to fix that (and probably delete this comment.)

Bizarre. It is working just fine here - I'm using IE. But I called it up in Netscape and it showed as text.

I don't know why or how to fix it. I plead ignorance of technical details. Argh...

Bill,
IE is saying "I don't care if you call it text/plain, it looks like HTML to me and I'm gonna display it." Mozilla is saying "you call it text/plain, that's what it is." :-) Look at Apache FAQ #16

If you renamed cnnparodypage (I assume that's the actual filename) to

cnnparodypage.html

then probably Apache would serve it correctly. Alternatively, you could use defaultType
to set the default type to text/html rather than the faulty (de faulty?) default default type, which is text/plain. (Isn't this fun? No? Awww..)

FYI - you have "Amendment" spelled wrong in the bar at the top of the parody =)

Thanks for posting this. I'm gathering a list of mirrors, so feel free to drop by my site or send me an email if any more arise.
