« Voter Fraud Combat Tips | Main | Voter Fraud: Nose of the Camel » September 30, 2004New Mexico Eases Controls on Voter FraudA decision by the New Mexico Supreme Court on Tuesday will maximize voter turnout on the Navajo Reservation in the Nov. 2 general election, DNA-Peoples' Legal Services Executive Director Levon Henry said Wednesday. The dispute centers on new state laws that require some first-time voters to show identification when they vote.Democrats argued against the toughest interpretation of the law, which would have required all all first-time voters to show identification unless they had registered in person at the county election office. Instead, only first-time voters who registered by mail will be required to show ID. While the Democrats argue that the more lax interpretation will maximize voter turnout, it also opens the door to fraud. Posted in Voter Fraud
