Beating Expectations

A headline in last week's Nashville Business Journal about Nashville's only Segway dealer struck me as being fraught with uncertain meaning: Segway sales beating expectations

What were the expectations? Did they expect to sell one? Ten? 50? A thousand? The story doesn't say. Whatever the expectations, Nashville's only Segway dealership was pleasantly surprised to sell more. Okay. Congratulations. And don't let anyone tell you that riding a Segway looks dorky.

Job was riding one on an episode of Arrested Development last season. That's got to be the best new show on the air.

The expectations raised before the introduction, that "Ginger" would change the world, certainly haven't been met.

I agree with you, Bill. That "beyond expectatioins" line was curious to me, as well. As was the comment in the story that the dealers didn't expect to sell one for months after opening. With those kind of expectations, it doesn't take much to out-perform them.

I stumbled over your comments from Sept today (March 30,2005) while researching something else. Yes, I get your point about being more precise, I'm the one who said it!! Thank you (belatedly) for pointing it out.

Anyway, doggone it, Segways are fun and if you are in Nashville sometime and have a moment to spare I would be glad to put you on it.

Best wishes, Cindi Ladd Segway of Nashville
