« Update | Main | From the Email Bag » September 20, 2004Defeating TerrorismPowerline points to an article in Jewish World Review that outlines how Israel has been winning the war on terror. Perhaps the greatest danger in fighting terrorism is the polarizing effect such a campaign can have — not just internationally, but domestically. To avoid this pitfall, a strong political consensus for military action is necessary. That means the president must actively reach out to domestic opposition. But American leaders must also heed Sharon's other lessons. That means an ability to endure criticism from abroad and even to risk international isolation, a willingness to define the war on terrorism as a total war, and a commitment to focus one's political agenda on winning, not on divisive or extraneous concerns. Fulfilling those conditions does not guarantee success. But it does make success possible - as Israel is, at great cost, showing the world.Total war against Islamist terror. I like the sound of that. After 9/11 it's suicidal not to. Posted in War on Terror

Is it reasonable to ask why Israel, with the financial and military support we give to them, is not participating in the Coalition of the Willing? Posted by: SemiPundit at September 21, 2004 11:13 AMIt's reasonable to ask. And there is a reasonable two-part answer. 1. Including Israel publically would "enrage the Arab street." Muslims dislike Americans but they HATE the joooos. 2. They probably are helping out behind the scenes and in covert ways. Posted by: Bill Hobbs at September 21, 2004 01:19 PMPost a comment
