Here's the latest from PowerLine, too. Don't miss it. And definitely don't miss Jonah Goldberg's hysterical column on memogate. John Podhoretz calls memogate "the most significant forgery scandal to hit journalism since the Hitler diaries." True. And it's even bigger than the forgery scandal involving CBS and its 60 Minutes program back in 1997, when Rather's colleague Mike Wallace perpetrated a journalistic fraud based on forged memos. It took CBS 18 months to apologize. The Washington Post is virtually certain the memos are forgeries. RatherGate.com is another central clearinhouse for coverage of the CBS memo forgery scandal. The site also provides a way for you to fax CBS and its affiliates to express your anger over the forged memos and urge them to dump Dan Rather. And Hugh Hewitt puts it all together with some well-written commentary. The mob outside the CBS virtual office grows -see VodkaPundit, The Spoons Experience, and Tim Blair. Imagine the poor intern at CBS, tasked with the job of printing out blogging updates for Dan, and approaching the great man, the latest ream of paper in hand, saying "Mr. Rather, sir, they are laughing at you in Australia and England"I know I'm laughing. Watching the liberal media's most liberal anchor shredding the reputation of the most liberal network makes me positively giddy. No one will believe CBS for a long time. That's not a bad thing. Speaking of something to laugh at! Posted by: Sharp as a Marble at September 14, 2004 09:44 AMNot surprisingly, my opinion of CBS has not changed in light of this. But then again it wasn't a favorable opinion to begin with so no loss there. Like you, I am enjoying the denials with amusement.
Dan hasn't received this much publicity in years...he is loving it and thumbing his nose at print and electronic media everywhere. Even if he corrects the story, someone else will take the fall...he will be the hero who wraps himself in a stealth coat of jornalistic ethics (insert heavy cough here). Posted by: Wes at September 14, 2004 11:25 AMdnc operatives have suggested Karl Rove is the author of the faked and forged memos...there is only one PROBLEM with that. cBS GAVE the faked and forged memos to the White House. Not the WH to cBS!
Memo forgery scandal? How about unwittingly leading a nation to war because of false intelligence? Post a comment
