Poll: Americans Fear Terrorism As Much as Job Loss

This AP poll tells you why President Bush is going to win the election by a comfortable margin.

Memories of the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11 are burned deeply into the nation's consciousness, and Americans today are as fearful of becoming a victim of terrorism as they are of losing their job or having their home burglarized. ... For most, the dominant feeling about that day was deep anger that anyone would commit such an act against this country, the poll conducted for the AP by Ipsos-Public Affairs found. Republicans and Democrats were equally likely to say they felt that way.
That's why terrorism ranks as the number one election issue for most Americans. For most Americans it is still just a few days after 9/11, and they're standing with Bush atop The Pile as he promises that the terrorists would soon hear from all of us. We're not done making them hear. That's why John Kerry won't wake up Nov. 3 as president-elect. When you know you are at war, you vote for a commander-in-chief, not an anti-war protestor.

We can afford to take on more debt, buy a bigger home - if we knew there wasn't going to be an attack here.

That's part of what's keeping us put. That and 4.74% rate and in the grand scheme of things, very little mortgage.

Terrorism and losing one's job are tied.
