« Kerry's Plans to Regulate Tech | Main | Devastating » August 4, 2004Shoving BackColin McNickle, the reporter whose simple question to Teresa Heinz-Kerry - who or what did she mean when she said some folks on the other side of the partisan divide were exhbiting "un-American" traits - prompted Heinz-Kerry to rudely tell him to "shove it," reports that Heinz-Kerry fans have deluged him with hate-filled emails and threats. And the mostly-liberal press has done its best to trash McNickle for daring to question Heinz-Kerry. They have not asked - and Teresa Heinz-Kerry still has not answered - McNickle's simple question. Who, exactly, does she believe is acting "un-American," and how? Posted in Campaign Season

But he was putting words in her mouth by asking her about what she had said a few minutes earlier. But...I guess she said it before she said she didn't say it. Posted by: Blake at August 4, 2004 08:16 PMI don't think the "shove it" remark, while totally uncalled for, is the real story here. Never mind the delicious irony of her making it minutes after a speech where she called for more civility in the political process. It's just another example of bad form by a politician. I think the real story here is the active, aggressive defense of her remarks by Kerry supporters and Democrats in general. Senator Clinton said "You go, girl!" and one of Kerry's senior advisors said he believes that Americans want to hear more of this sort of thing. Comments left on my blog are all over me, wondering why I didn't call out Dick Cheney for his 'F'-word remark to Sen. Leahy. I don't recall Republicans clambering to Cheney's defense, making public statements supporting his words. I don't recall Cheney going on national television and proudly proclaiming he'd "say it again." Many on the Left are not only defending Mrs. Kerry's words, they're trying to make some sort of hero out of her. This letter-writing campaign is just another example of it.
