« Digging Into Edwards | Main | Blog In, Blog On, Burn Out » July 8, 2004Honk Your Horn!Good news for my Nashville readers - radio talk show host Phil Valentine, a tireless champion of conservative causes and indefatigable foe of the proposed state income tax - is back on the air at a new station after a six-month hiatus. Even better news: He comes on a 9 a.m., which means I don't have to decide between Phil and Glen Beck for the first hour of Beck's show. Better news: He's on opposite Rush Limbaugh for three hours - giving a good alternative to those of us who think Rush has become repetitive and stale and a bit pre-9/11. Word is, by the way, that Valentine is nearly finished writing a book on the Tennessee tax revolt that stopped the imposition of an unconstitutional and unnecessary state income tax. I look forward to reading it. Posted in Nashville

HONK...HONK! Your point about Phil being a better alternative to Rush is a good one. Especially the part about Rush being too pre-9/11. I just wish there was a way to listen in via the internet since I am manning a computer at that time every morning. Anyway, the book rumor is tantalizing to me as someone who participated in the demonstrations on Capital Hill. I think there is far more significance(for the whole of our country) to Tennessee's fight against oppressive taxation than is often understood or reported by mainstream media. By the way, Bill, are you going to look into using the TypeKey service for comments? I signed up and am looking forward to more blogs making use of it. Posted by: Jody at July 8, 2004 09:19 AMre: Jody's comments on TN's significance in fighting government. It got almost no media coverage, even in Arkansas, but earlier this year crowds of people (anywhere from 500 to 1500 depending on who you believe) descended on Little Rock to protest the school consolidation plan that was being forced on small school districts. Those crowds caused a change in the plan that helped those small school districts. It was the same impressive show of the will of the people against the will of legislators. Posted by: mike hollihan at July 8, 2004 11:27 AMI sure hope Phil includes in the epilogue of his book that of the 8 Republicans that voted for the income tax only 2 are still in office. One of those, Bob Patton of District 7, seems to be facing challenges in his up coming primary race. Posted by: sbk at July 8, 2004 12:06 PMPhil is great and without him and Steve Gill we might have not beat back the state income tax. Valentine had a fun mix of call-ins his first day last week. Gordan Liddy would be better in the 9-1 slot, but at least he on a delay starting at 11pm. I think I'll start web-streaming Liddy. Anyway Phil following Gill works.
