The Fire Inside

The Philadelphia Inquirer's Bob Ford has written a really excellent profile of Lance Armstrong on the eve of Lance's attempt to win a record sixth straight Tour de France.

lance02.jpgArmstrong rides hardest when he is mad, when he is challenged. It is acknowledged among those who know him best that he would not have climbed the finish to Luz-Ardiden so well had he not fallen.

"When he got off the tarmac, the first thing I did was say, 'Now the race is over. I know this guy. The race is over. He's going to destroy people,' " said Bobby Julich, a former teammate of Armstrong's who was watching on television.

... "It is because he isn't afraid to lose that makes him so successful," Chris Carmichael, Armstrong's personal coach, told Cycling News. "Lance is willing to risk losing in order to win. True greatness only comes with real risks."

Is Lance Armstrong perfect? No. But a hero and an inspiration, most definitely.

Hats off to Lance. I love that guy; he's my favorite athlete of all time, and unfortunately I don't even follow him much.

See Dodgeball just for his cameo, though. He really is an inspiration! Way to go, LANCE!

Lance I absolutely, full heartedly love what you are doing for people that have caner and I really hope you find a cure that will help those that have and those that will have testicular cancer. My grandmother died when my DAD was only 9 and my Great-Grandmother both died from cancer. When I see people wearing these bracelets I say to them "Thats awesome what Lance is Doing isn't"? You are doing great with your riding and I think that retiring will give you more time with your kids and with your cancer foundation. As I said in another E-Mail that I sent to you, You are my role model and I am only 12 so you know you are doing great when even younger kids are saying "You are my role model". Thank You
