Legislation Makes Tax Hike, Income Tax, More Likely »

Cowards

NASHVILLE - The Tennessee state Senate's finance committee has passed Senate Bill 3326, moving the bill - which would extend the reporting deadline for the Tennessee Tax Structure Study Commission to December 31, moving it past the August primary and November general election - one step closer to passage.

The Tax Structure Study Commission is widely if not universally expected to recommend creation of a state income tax.

The bill is a transparent attempt by Democrats in the legislature to shield Democratic legislators and Democratic candidates from having to deal with the Income Tax Issue during the 2004 campaign.

After all, while the Tennessee Republican Party is officially opposed to the creation of a state income tax, the Tennessee Democratic Party has endorsed the income tax and it is Democratic legislators, including House Speaker Jimmy Naifeh, who have long pushed for creation of the income tax.

But now they want the issue off the table until after the November election. Because they don't want you to consider the issue in making your ballot choice.

Cowards.
