« Taxpayers Bill of Rights Update | Main | Circle of Influence » April 21, 2004Taken to The CleanersAnita Campbell looks at how the drycleaning industry is increasingly burdened by government regulations. She also explains why her favorite drycleaner is the one that charges 15 percent more. As for me, I can't find a drycleaner that actually does a good job getting spots out and doesn't ruin clothes. And picks up and delivers. But I'd be glad to pay more if such a place existed - so far, all I've found are drycleaners that are better at cleaning out my checking account than getting spots off clothes. I used to commute from Nashville to Clarksville to work - a 55-mile drive each way - and there's was a really good cleaner up there on Madison Street, a "One-Hour Martinizing" place where I would take my shirts and suits to be cleaned. I don't know if it's still there - this was 14 years ago. But there are times I'm tempted to load my car full of clothes and make the drive up there. Posted in Economy & Business

I really appreciated the part about Customer Service. It truly is a lost art in today's world. I see so many complaints about Wal-Mart, but hey - the big selling point with Wal-Mart is not only the low price. Their customer service is the best I've seen. Case in point: My wife bought a block of cheese there. A day later, it was completely moldy. She took it back and without any questions asked, they (1) apologized and (2) paid her twice the purchase price of the cheese. (We would have been satisfied with a simple replacement!) Customer Service is a big deal, in any industry. In fact, my pastor is in the middle of a series called "Developing People Skills". Not Biblical? Why not? How are we supposed to reach the lost without such skills? Posted by: King of Fools at April 21, 2004 12:19 PMPost a comment
