Oil!

Oil found in Tennessee.

Last month, a Kentucky company hit oil on a farm in Pickett County. The pressure of oil naturally bubbling to the surface has been so great that the producers have been unable to remove the drill for the past 25 days. In a state not known for its oil industry, the new well has created a stir. The world's high oil prices, which translate to steep gasoline prices at the pump, give producers reason to be optimistic. They are drilling more wells, and with the latest Tennessee oil discovery, speculative fever is building in Pickett, an area that has been a hot spot for drilling in recent years.

Why did the theme song of "The Beverly Hillbillies" pop into my head?

Expect an influx of endangered species into Pickett County in the near future.

How could the Beverly Hillbillies theme song NOT come to mind?

Further evidence that we'll never run out of oil.

Let me guess, an Appalachian county, right?

If it is, it makes sense. During the Mississippian the area was under a shallow sea, then swamp land. Lots of organic material to pressure cook into oil and gas.

Mike,

'Course we're not gonna run out of oil and gas, we're making it. There may even come a day when the oil wells are shut down because we don't need them anymore.
