Nobility and Faith

Here's an incredible story about Iraq and one of the amazing young Americans who fought there to liberate the Iraqi people - and the amazing way God used a 4-1/2 hour gunbattle to reveal His power.

Lt. Steven Pierce knows what it's like to be on the receiving end of a miracle. That's how he views surviving an ambush near Najaf in Iraq almost a year ago. In the first five minutes of a 4½-hour gunbattle, a bullet grazed Pierce. Spc. Brandon Rowe was shot in the side and eventually died.

Pierce's platoon was outnumbered 5-to-1, but it took out half the Iraqi force and lost only Rowe. ''It's amazing that we survived it,'' said Pierce, 29. ''The non-Christian soldiers in our platoon recognized it as just a complete miracle.''

One of the more amazing things in the story is how Pierce volunteered for a switch from an Army desk job to being in the infantry, because the infantry was "noble." Yes it is, sir. And made more so by your conduct.
