There's another here of Kerry with the flower dangling from his ski jacket. Is it a lift ticket? The Sun Valley ski patrolman sking with Kerry does not appear to have one... And Kerry isn't taking a lift to the top of the hill - he's ski-hiking up the hill. The mind reels... Posted in Campaign Season

At least you didn't accuse Sen. Kerry of heresy. This time. Perhaps it's the sign of the beast. Posted by: JadeGold at March 31, 2004 12:43 PMCause you know how many people see John Kerry with a little daisy and think "Heretic".. I didn't see Bill calling JFK^2 a heretic, but must have missed that post. I always thought the sign of the beast (mark of tbe beast, whatever) would be something more sinister than a flower, but hey, I could be wrong.. Posted by: Steve at March 31, 2004 01:30 PMKerry's a daisy if he beats Bush but he's no daisy. Posted by: Doc Holliday at March 31, 2004 02:20 PMIt's a zipper pull not a lift ticket. And a rather ugly, cheezy looking zipper pull at that. Having skied all over North America and Europe, I have *never* seen a lift ticket Perhaps it's an air freshener? Posted by: Russ Schultz at March 31, 2004 02:56 PMHis daughter better have given it to him as a present, and his daughter better be under the age of ten. Is JFK's secret service code name DAISY? Posted by: Vea Victis at March 31, 2004 03:12 PMFurther evidence that John F'ing Kerry is a feckless crapweasel. I try to fit that phrase in whenever appropriate. And for Kerry, believe me, any time is appropriate. Posted by: Colorado Conservative at March 31, 2004 03:27 PMUT did not get its money's worth out of Professor Reynolds today. Posted by: SemiPundit at March 31, 2004 03:27 PMI live in Boise and my wife and I have a small condo in Sun Valley. I've skied on Bald Mountain for about 20 years. The picture was snapped at the base of the mountain in front of Warm Springs lodge. I can tell you emphatically that the daisy is not a lift ticket. It is, however, a pretty lame attempt at something--hipness? Who knows. Anyway I'm sorry I was back east that particular weekend because I would have loved to have been on the hill to witness this jackassery. Posted by: kelly at March 31, 2004 03:32 PMUT did not get its money's worth out of Professor Reynolds today. Have they ever? Perhaps it's the price they pay to keep Reynold's dad on the faculty. Posted by: JadeGold at March 31, 2004 03:37 PMConsidering that I currently work in a university PR office, I have some credibility on the above question of whether UT is "getting it's money's worth out of Professor Reynolds." Yes. Absolutely. We'd kill to have a faculty member who is quoted and published online as often and in as many places as Glenn is. You can not put a price on that exposure - and UT can not afford the price for the amount of advertising they'd have to run to equal the positive impact Reynolds is having on raising the university's profile in some very key markets and communities. That is one reason I'm working with faculty at Belmont University to develop successful faculty blogs/bloggers. Posted by: Bill Hobbs at March 31, 2004 04:46 PMThere are two Kerry photos here via Yahoo news. In one of them the flower is visible. Those pictures were shot on the day that JFK did his expedition: snowshoeing up and snowboarding down. I don't think a lift ticket would have been used or useful for that since it was all under his own power. If it was a pass of some kind, remember that he had a member of the ski patrol with him on the expedition. Posted by: The Lonewacko Blog at March 31, 2004 05:11 PMYes. Absolutely. We'd kill to have a faculty member who is quoted and published online as often and in as many places as Glenn is. Hahahaha. Mr. Hobbs confuses quantity with quality. Posted by: JadeGold at March 31, 2004 05:57 PMActually, Jade, I wasn't discussing quality. I was discussing the number of free-media impressions that UT gets because Glenn Reynolds is widely quoted and is widely published online and off. Where I work, we spend money on running print, tv and radio ads but we also work like mad to generate free-media because it has such a huge impact. Often, free-media has more credibility simply by virtue of the fact that it ISN'T a paid ad. I'm telling you, Glenn Reynolds is very, very, very good for UT, and his blog - even if you think he's wrong and it's crap - is a huge plus for UT given his 100,000 readers a day and his high profile in the traditional media. I'd rather have one professor appear one time on the local news discussing, say, the economy, than $25,000 to run ads on the same news show touting our business school. Posted by: Bill Hobbs at March 31, 2004 06:16 PMMaybe he's wearing a teenage girl's jacket, and it just came with the jacket. Or perhaps he's just trying to update his look- you know, accessorizing and stuff. I've heard rumors that he is planning to get tough with the terrorists by appointing Buffy the Vampire Slayer as his National Security Advisor. Posted by: oblomov at March 31, 2004 06:21 PMAgain, Mr. Hobbs, I don't dispute Reynolds is prolific; whether he's good for UT is debatable. As an example, I'd cite Reynolds' borderline racist comment about the District of Columbia being a "colony not deserving of voting rights." It's astounding any professor at an accredited university would make such a remark and keep his or her job. It's doubly astounding a law professor would actually advocate a certain group of Americans aren't deserving of voting rights. This is but one example where Reynolds has embarrassed himself and, by proxy, his academic institution. Posted by: JadeGold at March 31, 2004 07:15 PMDC has voting rights. They elect city council members, the mayor, etc. Their votes also count in presidential elections. There are very good reasons to not permit residents of that city to elect voting members of Congress. It is not racist to call DC a colony. Neither is it accurate - DC is not a colony but a ward of the state, a bizarre place where roughly half the residents of DC are federal dependents, and most of the rest are the federal bureaucrats and elected officials they are dependent on. Washington DC produces virtually nothing, economically-speaking. It exists on the handouts of government and on government salaries. It is hardly a functioning city at all - more like a "company town" that wouldn't exist w/out the company. Colony is a poor choice of descriptor, but I fail to see how it is racist to use that term. Is it racist to call the original 13 British colonies that became the United States "colonies" ??? :-) Posted by: Bill Hobbs at March 31, 2004 09:20 PMGlad to see Jade fully supports free speech. Hypocrite. Posted by: Ivan at March 31, 2004 11:19 PMIs it racist to call the original 13 British colonies that became the United States "colonies" ??? For an Englishman military officer of the 18th century to call someone a 'colonial', was, indeed a derogatory term...as in less-than-a true Brit. Ethnocentric for sure...perhaps racist. Posted by: wes at April 1, 2004 11:07 AMI've long suspected that JadeGold is a government employee. Perhaps that is why DC is so near to his/her heart. Posted by: M McKin at April 1, 2004 12:42 PMJG isn't, directly. He works for a beltway bandit, though. Posted by: Slartibartfast at April 1, 2004 04:23 PMDC has voting rights. They elect city council members, the mayor, etc. Their votes also count in presidential elections. There are very good reasons to not permit residents of that city to elect voting members of Congress. No, Mr. Hobbs, there is no good reason for DC residents not to have representatives in Congress. DC citizens pay taxes. DC has sent its sons and daughters to nearly every war in this nation's history. Some didn't come back. Tell us, Mr. Hobbs, why DC citizens aren't good enough to be represented in Congress. Again, Reynolds' comment was: "A lot of people in DC say that the District is essentially a colony. Well, if so I think it's a colony that's not ready for self-government." It's a plainly racist comment. Compound that with a law professor actually advocating certain US citizens don't deserve voting rights. Did Reynolds say that Orange County (one of the nation's wealthiest and whitest counties) doesn't deserve voting rights when it when bankrupt in the midst of an economic boom? Nope. Posted by: JadeGold at April 1, 2004 05:27 PMHey! I thought this was a daisy chain! Posted by: kelly at April 1, 2004 07:34 PMIt's difficult to say any American doesn't deserve voting rights, but after electing a known crackhead mayor, you have to wonder about their civic responsibility... Posted by: Ivan at April 1, 2004 11:51 PMSlartibartfast, Who does Jade work for? Does he wear black suits? What did he know and when did he know it? Ya know, maybe JG's agenda would become more clear if his employer were known. Posted by: Ivan at April 1, 2004 11:54 PMIt's difficult to say any American doesn't deserve voting rights, but after electing a known crackhead mayor, you have to wonder about their civic responsibility... Ivan, you don't want to go there. Strom Thurmond? Bob Barr? Jesse Helms? Heck, Louisiana elected David Duke. Posted by: JadeGold at April 2, 2004 08:35 AMLead in the water which was covered up by the city gov't since at least 2002. One of the worst public school systems in the country. One of the highest murder rates of any city in the country and crime rates that are horrendous compared with other large cities (such as NYC). And yeah...I used to live in DC and now you know why I don't live there anymore. His employer is irrelevant; I really doubt that he speaks for them. The only thing you can really count on is that JadeGold is deliberately and frequently dishonest, and thrives on stirring up trouble. These facts are, as JG is fond of claiming, "well documented". The important thing to remember is that JG is a troll. Engaging a troll in conversation just encourages it, and results in a progressively increasing outpouring of lies and vitriol from it. It's best to ignore it, unless you really enjoy the self-abuse. My employer is LockMart, for the record. I don't speak for them, either. Posted by: Slartibartfast at April 2, 2004 09:06 AMBucky: Almost all of the problems in DC you mentioned could be directly related to the fact DC residents don't have representation in Congress. WRT lead in the water--it turns out the EPA knew of the problem and didn't bring it to the city's attention. As for school systems--go South. Most southern states school systems are abysmal; what excuse do they have? Posted by: JadeGold at April 2, 2004 10:54 AMIt has nothing to do with the fact DC doesn't have any representation in Congress and you know it. The fact is the city gov't in this town is so inept and corrupt, it can't even handle basic services. I don't see it getting better anytime soon. Why do you think the head of the DC Dept of Health was forced to resign? Maybe it was because the DC Dept of Health knew about the lead problem back in 2002 (as documented in a Washington Post news item.)? Why do you think the EPA made the ruling that WASA violated EPA rules during replacement of lead pipes *last year* and cited WASA for the violations? At least try and get your facts right. Let's see, student shootings, mercury contamination incident at Ballou. The Metro Police Dept having to be bought in to provide security. The Ballou principal suspended, with news reports a few weeks ago indicating that a drug ring was operating out of the school with the possible involvement of the school administration. Should we talk about the DC Teachers Union whose president bilked members out of hundreds of thousands of dollars in union dues to buy herself furs and other high priced luxury items? And guess what, that same union president was a big backer and friend to guess who- yes the Mayor Tony Williams. Even under Mayor Tony..it's business as usual, it's who you know.
Christ, you are one dumbass twinkie Jade. Posted by: Bucky Katt at April 2, 2004 02:41 PMIt has nothing to do with the fact DC doesn't have any representation in Congress and you know it. No, I don't know it. Please explain to us why you think the DC residents are incapable of self-governance? Is it because they're largely African-American? Or does some magic transformation occur when people cross the Potomac River? Tell us, Bucky. Which one is it? Posted by: JadeGold at April 2, 2004 03:35 PMJade, are you really comparing a man caught in an FBI sting smoking crack to Thurmond and Barr? Seriously? You have no moral compass, Jade. The GOP ran out David Duke...we don't like Klansmen aligning themselves with us. The Democrats in WV, however, have gleefully embraced their Klansman for several decades. I'm going there, Jade...tell me how you can justify electing a drug addict? Please, tell me how it's acceptable for people to elect a practicing crackhead? Are you going to spout some condescending BS about African Americans electing one of their own because the "man" is out to get him? Are you going to shrug your shoulders and say, hey, great, DC has a mayor that sucks on the pipe? Please keep posting, Jade. Your bizarro world is truly fascinating. Posted by: Ivan at April 2, 2004 11:33 PMActually, the GOP didn't run out Duke. In 1995, Mike Foster (R) was running for governor of LA. He paid $150K to Duke for Duke's mailing list of supporters. Why? Marion Barry had an excuse as to why he was a bad mayor. He was a crackhead. What was Barr's excuse? Thurmond's? Posted by: JadeGold at April 6, 2004 06:25 AM>No, I don't know it. Please explain to Sure you do know it. BTW who is "us"? Again, as was pointed out DC *is* self-governed, just like any other US city, and they do an incredibly bad job of it. I've pointed out just a *few* instances. So crack smoking is now an excuse for being a bad Mayor? What was Sharon Pratt Kelly's excuse? What's Tony "The Tiger" Williams excuse? And you never did provide an explanation of why the Dem's refused an offer on getting congressional representation for DC. I'm still waiting Jade-asshat. Post a comment
