« The Essence of John Kerry | Main | Kerry Campaign Poster #2 » March 26, 2004"Fair Tax" NewsHere's more on the "Fair Tax" prosal that I mentioned in a post yesterday about Georgia congressional candidate Robert Lamutt. In a preview of the GOP agenda after the fall election, House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, R-Texas, says they are determined to repeal the federal income tax. Long an advocate of a national sales tax, a confident DeLay told a conference of tax lobbyists Wednesday that House Republicans will have hearings and push the issue in 2005 and 2006. This is an awfully interesting proposal but I must point out that as long as the Constitution allows an income tax, we'll probably never be rid of it. Even if DeLay accomplished this--which seems doubtful--all that would likely happen is we would get a national sales tax, but also an income tax on top of it.
