« Wired Sez: Blogads Work | Main | Economy Update: Backpedaling Forward » February 19, 2004Secrecy, Lies and Legislation 2Two days ago I sent Thomas Tigue, a deputy legislative attorney in the Tennessee General Assembly's Office of Legal Services, an email asking why he lied to the president of the Tennessee Digital Freedom Network about a Jan. 26 hearing on Senate Bill 3101, a bill that purports to address theft of cable television service. I was seeking his explanation in response to this investigative piece I published here on Tuesday. That article documents the lie Tigue told in an email to Scott Lyon, president of the TDFN, by presenting readers with an image of Tigue's actual email, and an audio of the hearing, which proves that, despite what Tigue said, he was not the only person asked to speak to the Communications Theft Study Committee that day. Two lawyers representing the cable industry were also on hand and invited to speak. They support the bill. The TDFN, which opposes the legislation, was not notified of the hearing. Just as soon as he responds, I'll let you know. Meanwhile, for ongoing updates on SB 3101, be sure to check the TDFN's website, Posted in Digital Freedom

Bill, Not a comment about this post, but I don't think your XML feed is updating. Posted by: Paul at February 19, 2004 09:38 AMYes, Bill knows it isn't working and would like help from anyone who knows about RDF and Moveable Types use of it. I'm sorry that I don't know more about either, Bill. Keep asking and someone may have your answer. Posted by: jody at February 19, 2004 10:36 AMAll the settings are set properly - I have no clue as to why it doesn't update. Posted by: Bill at February 19, 2004 11:07 AMIt seems okay here. That's how I read the site.. Both http://www.billhobbs.com/hobbsonline/index.xml and index.rdf seem up to date.. --Chris Posted by: Chris Wage at February 19, 2004 01:57 PMChris, thanks. You posted the URL and that made me realize one thing I could check to fix it. XML is is now updating. Posted by: Bill at February 19, 2004 02:12 PMSB3101 is back on the agenda for today's Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, and HB3391 will be heard by the House Judiciary's Criminal Practice & Procedure Subcommittee this morning at 9. Do you suppose they decided that it was safer not to respond to your story at all, and hope that you forgot about it? Posted by: Tony at February 24, 2004 07:58 AMGreat very good!!
