Go Packers.

I grew up in the suburbs of Philadelphia, a big Eagles fan. Ron Jaworski, Harold Carmichael. Wilbert Montgomery, and then, later, Randall Cunningham, Cris Carter, and Buddy Ryan's awesome defense. Now I live and root for the Tennessee Titans, but still root for the current version of the Eagles to win their games - except when they play the Titans. But not this weekend.

This weekend, I'm rooting for the Green Bay Packers to defeat the Eagles in Philadelphia. This is why.

It's a hateful slime-filled column published in a Philadelphia newspaper that goes out of its way to dig up every skeleton in Packer QB Brett Farve's personal life and his family's personal lives, and to mock the recent death of his father. Farve is no saint, but he certainly does not deserve such treatment Why am I holding that against the Eagles? Simple. For some reason, the Eagles have attracted fans who like that sort of thing. How do we know? Because the paper wouldn't have published such garbage unless there was a big audience for it, and the audience for it happens to be Eagles fans. Not all of them, but enough of them. Well, I don't like that sort of garbage, and I don't want to be associated with people who do.

Sorry Eagles, but I hope Farve lights your secondary up for four touchdowns, and Ahman Green runs for two more.

Go Packers.*

*However, I'll be rooting for the Titans over any team they play in these playoffs, even if they meet Green Bay in the Super Bowl.

If Green Bay meets Tennessee, I'll be torn, being a transplanted Wisconsinite. Let's hope it doesn't come to that.

I don't think I've ever seen a scummier piece of "journalism" in my entire life.

I'm not much of a football fan, but whatever else happens, I'll be rooting for the Eagles to lose, and lose big.

OBTW, the column's author has an email address -- russeld@phillynews.com -- if you care to use it. I did.

Two things to remember about Philly fans:

1. They booed Santa
2. They booed (a pre-rape trial) Philly native Kobe Bryant when he won his All-Star game MVP
2. They booed Michael Irvin as he was carried off on a stretcher following his career-ending neck injury.

Yeah, I know - it's Michael Irvin, but at that point it wasn't clear he'd be able to walk again. That's Philly.

Of course, I'm a Giants fan...

I grew up in Philly as well and am in town for the game.

Bill if you've been to the games you know that Philly fans are rough. But let's keep in mind that the official site put a stop to this dispicable behaviour by some (not all) of the fans.

Why should the Eagles organization and the rest of the fans pay because these jerks don't know where not to cross the line?

I'm still cheering for the birds. I'll let God deal with the jerks who don't realize that a passing father is no laughing matter.

Egads, these people sure did howl when Rush Limbaugh said Donovan McNabb was overrated because the the sports media wanted to see a black man succeed.

Looks like a case of spooning it out but not taking it.

Oh, one more thing: Geaux Tigers!

Independent George

First of all the booing of Santa has been completely blown out of proportion by a granstanding Howard Cosell. The real story is more funny than mean spirited but hey why actually care about the truth

Second, the booing of Kobe was directly related to an interview where he dissed Philadelphia right before the game, basically saying he had no desire ever to go back there except to play. It was to small time for him as he is Kobe.

The Michael Irvin booing was reprehensible. As as a Giants fan, I am sure you fan base is in a position to throw stones.

As a Philadelphian, I basically stopped reading the sports pages, one to many hit pieces like the Favre article.
