The Carver

I was asked to photograph a local artist – who does these weird woodcarving things – for Nashville Arts magazine. They want the photographs that accompany their stories to be art in an of themselves, so it’s not straight photojournalism – I can process the images to create art.

I am going to be submitting several images, but this is the main one, and I’m going to submit it in both color and black & white. I’m attaching several treatments in color and several in black & white. I just want your thoughts on which color and which B&W is best.

Remember, the goal is not straight photojournalism, but artistic photojournalism.

Nashville Arts (NashvilleArts.com) is a high-end magazine.

I’ll post the color shots first, then the black & white.

The first shot below is pretty much the straight color shot, already cropped but with minimal processing.

Please let me know what you think is the best color and the best black & white. You can just email me your thoughts at bill@billhobbs.com or use the contact form on the website. Thanks in advance!
