When Bureaucracy Attacks

The Tennessee Department of Safety makes so many errors in maintaining the list of handgun carry permit holders that it has a form letter it uses to notify people whose permits were cancelled in error.

I've got one for you. I renewed my handgun permit April 3. I was told I would receive my new permit in 6-8 weeks but the renewal would be in the system. I called in July and they said they were still backed up. Yesterday, August 12, I stopped by the license office to see if I could just get a duplicate (which I can't) and found out that I have been carrying my gun without a valid permit this entire time because of their "backup". I asked "what if I get pulled over and they ask for it"...the state office said...are you ready for this...I GUESS YOU ARE JUST GOING TO BE IN TROUBLE.

I'm waiting on the form letter that lets permit holders "opt out" of unsolicited begging. You know like the one that Tenn. Sheriff's Assoc sent out?

Thank you Jimbo Naifeh for keeping the list public. Permit holders can get on the "do not call" list but can't keep their names from being used on junk mail.

This is just one of the things you get for not wanting to pay a state income tax: a government with so few resources that you end up paying a higher hidden tax of multiple inconviennces, including wasted time, delayed service, fines, fees, tolls, outrageous sales taxes, school "fundraisers," wheel taxes, property taxes and on and on and on.

The amount of money the average Tennessean would pay in income taxes (in the hundreds of dollars) would be less than the total nickel and diming on every front for much crappier government service and infrastructure.

Christian, an income tax has nothing to do with the DoS ineptness. They get over $100 from each applicant and $50 at renewal to run a computer data base background check.

Chasing smokers across state lines, building $20 million bunkers hiring consultants for $100s of thousands and buy outs for gov't employees is no reason for an income tax. It's a reason to fire them all this election.

We are paying at least $1.5 BILLION more for this year's Bredesen budget than last (where the sales tax surplus went).

That's $250 per capita assuming 6 million residents in TN.

Didn't you notice how much better the services are?

Or how many (more) hundreds per person does it take to notice a difference?
