« Pump Prices, Polls and the Will of the People | Main | A Man in Full Defense of President Bush » July 16, 2008Obama Thinks You're StupidFrom the Los Angeles Times: Obama website's opposition to successful surge gets deleted A funny thing happened over on the Barack Obama campaign website in the last few days. The parts that stressed his opposition to the 2007 troop surge and his statement that more troops would make no difference in a civil war have somehow disappeared. When President Bush ordered the surge in January, 2007, Obama said this: "I am not persuaded that 20,000 additional troops in Iraq is going to solve the sectarian violence there. In fact, I think it will do the reverse."He was wrong. Completely wrong. Because Obama didn't understand that the surge was a complete change in military and grassroots-level political strategy, not just the addition of more troops. The New York Daily News first reported the Obama's campaign site had been scrubbed of language saying the Iraq troop surge was part of "The Problem" in Iraq. According to the LA Times, an Obama spokeswoman said the change was just part of an "update" to "reflect changes in current events. He thinks you're stupid. Change and Hope Obama's website was changed because Obama hopes you'll forget that when America faced its toughest challenge in the war on terror, Obama's first instinct was to tuck tail and run and hope for the best. Obama's website was changed because Obama is the candidate of change - he changes positions based on what he thinks the audience wants to hear, and hopes it brings him victory. Compare and contrast that with John McCain, who backed the surge when it seemed it might be political suicide, famously declaring he would rather that he lose an election than America lose a war. McCain doesn't have to alter his website to change his position on the Iraq war and the surge, because he didn't change his position even when it seemed politically expedient. Obama is a finger-in-the-wind politician. McCain is a leader. Chameleons change. Dreamers hope. Cowards run. Leaders lead. Posted in Campaign Season
