It's Not Like the Economy is a Big News Story These Days...

Only one member of the local media showed up today for this press conference. Funny, you'd think a visit to Nashville by a former Fortune 500 CEO who is one of John McCain's top advisers, especially on economic and business issues, (and who also is mentioned as McCain's possible vice presidential nominee) would have drawn a little more media interest, especially on what is, otherwise, a moderately slow news day around these parts.

Maybe the economy and the presidential race just isn't a big story these days.

Kudos to Mary Perren, the Tennessee correspondent for Metro Networks/Westwood One, for seeing the news value - and for getting what amounted to an exclusive interview with Carly Fiorina, chairman of the Republican National Committee's Victory '08 project and an advisor to McCain on economic and business issues.

The TN GOP will release video from the press conference later today. Meanwhile, here's a video clip of Fiorina speaking at an event a few weeks ago in Detroit.

Bill, the 1990s were really good to Carly. Her bio speaks glowingly of that time while barely mentioning her net worth and successes under in this decade under the Republican Party's leadership of President George Bush, Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and House Majority Leader Tom Delay.

If Carly wants the historic economic prosperity and the kind of fiscal responsibility that balanced budgets and electrified America's business environment, she might want to reconsider supporting a candidate who admits the economy isn't a strong suit.

Chris, she was CEO of HP from 1999-2005, during which time she did quite well (and set up HP for its current success and global leadership in PC sales). Four of those years coincided with the first Bush term, including the first three years of the Bush economic boom.
