McCain: Time To Drill Offshore For More Oil

drill_here_drill_now_pay_less.jpgRepublican presidential nominee John McCain is announcing today his support for resumption of offshore oil drilling, while Democrat noninee Barack Obama and the national Democrat party remain opposed to it even as gas prices surge above $4 a gallon nationwide.

Good timing, McCain: New polling from Rasmussen indicates that most voters - including most Democrats - favor the resumption of offshore oil drilling in the United States.

A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey - conducted before McCain announced his intentions on the issue - finds that 67% of voters believe that drilling should be allowed off the coasts of California, Florida and other states. Only 18% disagree and 15% are undecided. Conservative and moderate voters strongly support this approach, while liberals are more evenly divided (46% of liberals favor drilling, 37% oppose).

... Nearly all voters are worried about rising gas and energy prices, with 79% very concerned and 16% somewhat concerned.

McCain is expected to formally call today (Tuesday) for the lifting of the federal moratorium on states being allowed to explore off their coasts for oil and gas deposits.

... The Outer Continental Shelf moratorium, passed in 1981, bans exploration for offshore natural gas and oil deposits. Barack Obama, McCain's opponent for the White House, voted against an effort to lift the ban last year in the Senate. He argued that it was only a short-term solution. National Democratic Party leaders and most environmental organizations for years have strongly opposed efforts to explore for oil off the coast of the U.S.

According to the new survey, 85% of Republicans are in favor of offshore drilling as opposed to 57% of Democrats and 60% of unaffiliated voters. Those who call themselves conservatives favor such drilling 84% to 46% of liberals and 59% of self-designated moderates.

"Drill here, drill now, pay less" makes a lot more sense - both as policy and as politics - than does the Obamacrats' plan that amounts to "don't drill, whine about high gas prices, and pretend that raising taxes on oil companies will make gas prices go down."

There is no shortage of crude oil (in the next few years). There is a shortage of refining capacity - which has been purposely curtailed for decades by the oil industry to bid up prices. In the last four years, the world demand has used up all the refining capacity - creating a big pay-off for oil companies.

McCain's policies are written by oil lobbyists, who lie about the real problem to get long-term oil rights from our national heritage. Drilling will NOT reduce pump prices but it will provide a bankable asset to Big Oil.

Get rid of lobbyist influence on oil policy - only then can we finally see positive change.

"Drilling will NOT reduce pump prices..."

Has the economic laws of supply and demand been repealed?

I saw this coming over a decade ago! When the environmentalist and Democrats blocked drilling offshore and in Alaska, I new it would come out of my pocket. If we don't open ALL drilling in America, it is going to continue to hurt our children and there ability to buy affordable fuel. They said, "We won't see any of the effect from drilling in Alaska for 10 years, so why do it". Well that was 11 years ago! Thank you very much Clinton & Democrats. The economy was great while Republicans controlled Congress; now that the Democrats are in control we can see what there solution is, blame Bush! Yeah right. Vote Republican and Never ever Vote for a Democrat, unless you are anti American, then it's understandable.
