« Bet on the Bloggers | Main | The Places Barack Won't Go » June 16, 2008Did Dem Effort To Help Lincoln Davis Backfire?Roy Exum at The Chattanoogan thinks Tennessee Democrat Party state executive committee member Fred Hobbs' controversial remarks last week accusing Barack Obama of being "terrorist connected" were intentional in order to benefit the future gubernatorial ambitions of Democrat U.S. Rep. Lincoln Davis. Exum calls Fred Hobbs* "of Rep. Davis' closest party cronies," and says, "those in the know say Hobbs' remarks were made in a way that would safeguard Rep. Davis when Gov. Phil Bredesen steps down." Meanwhile, the Memphis Flyer reports on former U.S. Rep. Harold Ford Jr.'s quick denouncement of his former campaign aide Beecher Frasier - now Lincoln Davis' chief of staff - who echoed Fred Hobbs' comments to the Nashville City Paper last week by implying he thought it was possible Obama did have terrorist connections. The Flyer's ace political scribe, Jackson Baker, notes that Fred Hobbs* "is considered close to Davis," and says the upshot of last week's controversy "is that future political prospects for Davis, who has been rumored as a potential gubernatorial candidate in 2010, have been dimmed." * Not related to me whatsoever.
