Republicans Cut Bredesen's Tax Increase Request In Half

tnflag.jpgTom Humphrey at the Knoxville News Sentinel reports that the legislature has given Gov. Phil Bredesen and his Democrat administration most of the tax increases it asked for, including a provision to make legal a tax the Department of Revenue has, by its own admission, been collecting illegally since Jan. 1, 2008. Republican opposition did help kill a big tax increase on family-owned real estate investment businesses, which represented more than half of the new revenue sought by the administration's tax increase legislation.
