Both pieces of legislation would have made people safer. If every one of those 339,000 people would click here and donate $10, and then go give $50 or $100 or more to any Republican running for the House against an incumbent Democrat or for an open seat, there's a very good chance that, come next January, the Naifeh gang won't be running the show anymore. Gun owners and carry permit holders, you've let the Naifeh gang trample on you and your rights for too long. If you make a donation to the Tennessee Republican Party or to Republicans running for the state House, I suggest you add 2 cents to the donation - $10.02, $50.02 $100.02, etc... - to signify you're making the donation in order to protect your Second Amendment rights. Update: Welcome, Instapundit readers. For those of you who don't know who I am, in addition to this blog I am the communications director for the Tennessee Republican Party. The TN GOP issued a press release today about this issue. Update: According to the Tennessee Department of Safety, the number of active carry permits is about 190,000. I have had it with him. I want to make it my personal mission in life to see him removed. And what is the party doing to punish the 7 republicans who voted for Naifeh as speaker last go round? Giving money is not enough for me - I'm emotional now because it is clear that he has no regard for my personal safety. In fact, I will go so far as to say that he holds contempt for my personal safety. Posted by: wizardpc at April 3, 2008 11:19 AMTO: Bill Hobbs, et al. ....another guess the guy's party? Regards, Chuck(le) Actually, not everyone gets the politicians they deserve. Those that voted against this turkey, do they deserve this??? I don't, and I won't. Posted by: Daniel at April 3, 2008 8:38 PMI was pleasantly surprised to see the committee and subcommittee shenanigans reported in The Tennessean by Theo Emery, who is covering the legislature. This is a change for The Tennessean. I am going to thank Emery for committing journalism. Posted by: Donna Locke at April 3, 2008 8:48 PMLet's get it right people. Can we not already carry in "restaurants", with the exception of those that serve alcoholic beverages? This bill would have allowed carry in those as well if you didn't imbibe. If safety is Mr. Naifeh's issue, then why doesn't he introduce a bill banning alcohol in restaurants, since many Tennesseans are killed and maimed by alcohol impaired drivers each year? Nearly 500 in 2005 died from alcohol related traffic accidents, and nearly 200 of those involved people under the legal limit. I'm being facetious here but the point needs to be delivered to the Naifeh. Posted by: kahrP40 at April 4, 2008 8:23 AMThe GOP needs only four seats to pick-up the house. One of those is the 48th in Rutherford County. Lou Ann Zelenik is a strong 2nd Amendment supporter, and could be the key to removing Naifeh. What a breath of fresh air to get that thug out of the Speakers position. Posted by: Raymond Baker at April 4, 2008 8:34 AMI'm going to ask again, since my question may have been overlooked in my first post. What is the party doing to punish the 7 republicans who voted for Naifeh as speaker last go round? If republicans are going to vote for him, then what does it matter who controls the house? Posted by: wizardpc at April 4, 2008 2:11 PMwizardpc, you are on target asking the question re the RINO's who voted for Naifeh. Obviously there are no guarantees, but it doesn't help in the short term to worry about them. We have to deal with the winnable seats now. How quickly you forget. Remember the Republicans putting John Wilder back into power? I do. It would be wonderful to give to the Republican party in hopes of getting better government, but with the way they have voted in the past, giving to Republicans looks just like giving to the Democrats. And in the Presidential race, voting for a Republican is the same as voting for a Democrat. Give me something to support and I will, with a vote and money. There's my .02. Posted by: egarrard at April 4, 2008 9:36 PMHere's the guy who the GOP is running against Naifeh: Rory Bricco Rory Bricco will be a formidable opponent. Naifeh is losing support as his district is growing rapidly and the new folks don't support him. He's had some close races lately. Rory Bricco needs your help to make a strong campaign against the present Speaker. Get behind him; support him. Visit his blog (http://www.rorybricco.com)and encourage him. Rory 'The Brick' Bricco is the man we need! Posted by: SallyLucy at April 20, 2008 11:17 PMPost a comment
