« Primary Colors | Main | Democrats Put Politics Before National Security » February 15, 2008Looking Back at the Banner Years
I moved back to Nashville in 1988, armed with a journalism degree, a year of experience at a Texas newspaper, and a singular goal: to work for the Nashville Banner, which I had always enjoyed reading when I was a college student here in the mid-80s.. In the 10 years that followed, I would work for the Clarksville Leaf-Chronicle, the Nashville Business Journal, and The Tennessean - and freelance for a dozen or more publications here locally and around the country. The Banner is about the only publication in town that I never worked for. But I read it every day, and was sad, though not surprised, to learn 10 years ago tomorrow of its impending demise. Now would be a great time to mention that I have about 10 copies of the last-day issue of the Banner - and they are in perfect condition, having sat untouched in a closed box since that day, when I bought them at a long-ago-closed coffee shop in downtown Nashville's Arcade. I'm willing to part with a few of them, for a reasonable price. Just email me at bill-at-billhobbs.com. Update: Only Posted in Nashville

Yes, that was a sad day for Nashville. I used to work for the old Banner too, and I still miss it. I had hoped the influx of Banner people would help the city's other daily. Alas, it has not. Posted by: Lee Elder at February 15, 2008 11:09 AMPost a comment
