Bipartisan Opposition to the Ballroom

tnflag.jpg
Another interesting tidbit in today's edition of the subscription-only Tennessee Journal:

Reps. Rob Briley (D-Nashville) and Beth Harwell (R-Nashville) filed a House resolution urging Gov. Phil Bredesen to delay construction of Conservation Hall, "no matter how worthwhile," during "these times of fiscal austerity." The hall, a 14,000-square-foot underground facility at the governor's residence, is to include a 3,000-square-foot ballroom and has generated much controversy.
Any sober analysis of the ballroom project inevitably leads to the conclusion that, 1, cancelling the project would save taxpayers more than $8 million and, 2, doing so would be the fiscally smart thing to do at given the state's growing revenue shortfall.

Cute.
