Thins You Shouldn't Say

In today's Washington Post story looking ahead to the Republican presidential primary in New Hampshire:

[Huckabee's] aides are wary of New Hampshire. "It's all no tax, no government there," said Bob Wickers, a top strategist. "It's not ideal."

But they believe that the message of economic anxiety that he preaches will help in Michigan's primary on Jan. 15 and in states in the South, which have high poverty rates in addition to strong groups of social conservatives."

It seems to me that if you're an adviser to a Republican presidential candidate whose trying to convince voters that he's not a closet tax-raiser and Big Government guy, you might not want to describe your boss as scared of a state where the average Republican voters likes lower taxes and less government.

Every time you hear the word "populist" in describing a candidate of either party, just think "redistribution" and "socialism".
