« Running Scared: House Democrat Caucus Reveals It Will Back Briley in '08 Election | Main | 800 Jobs Open in Springfield, Tennessee, For Americans and Legal Immigrants » January 6, 2008Tennessean: Politicians, Blogging! The Sunday Tennessean says, "Some elected officials aren't relying on newspapers or TV stations to report on local government - they're blogging about it. At least two local politicians are following the lead of state and national reps by setting up personal Web logs to explain hyper-local issues that only a few might care about, like a church rezoning or problems at a school." Bill, The three blogs that the Tennessean identifies at least appear to be written first-hand and that's a good sign. What can you/we(all) do to get more council members (and other elected officials) interacting with constituents via blogs? I laughed at the comment from one politician who didn't want to be part of a 'passing fad'. Good grief. Posted by: Paul Chenoweth at January 6, 2008 5:01 AMYeah, I laughed at the 'passing fad' remark too. It's disappointing that Evan's has comments disabled. I understand it, and I'm sure Campfield REALLY understand why, but we need some public conversation about some of these issues. A blog is easy to set up and an easy way to start a conversation. What I told Sarrio was that the BIG downside with blogging for politicians the they can and will be held accountable for what they write. If you are afraid to run on your record, afraid of misstating or working through the debate...blogging isn't going to be worth the grief. It's harder than it looks. And, btw, the Garcia poll isn't on Johnson's blog...it's at mine. Posted by: Kay Brooks at January 6, 2008 10:02 AMOops. A reader has informed me that BOE member Johnson's blog does contain a Garcia poll...it's way at the bottom of her page. My apologies for the error.
